Well, we actually managed to get out this morning, collected another picker upper on route and got to the shoot! But today we were all at the other ground, ten miles away and I had to drive over in the most hideous vehicle you have ever driven in your whole life! A Santana (google it!). Everyone roared with laughter and couldn't believe I had taken that shoot vehicle over
Only four of us picker uppers managed to get there - there are normally eight of us
But it was only a 200 bird day with 10 dogs between us (plus some of the guns had dogs) we managed just fine
It was bloody freezing cold, unbelievably hard work to trudge across the side of a hill in the snow - I kept slipping and several times I completely lost my sense of humour
I was very ready to go home at half past three when we had finished!
But the dogs worked brilliantly as usual but it must have been freezing for them in the reservoir - not that they seemed to mind!
A few pics.......
There is a herd of deer running right on the skyline but I don't think you can pick them out in that.
Brrrr - the dogs must have been cold swimming out in this to retrieve birds!
Flyn waiting patiently for the drive to start....
And a few retrieves - as there was only four of us the dogs were very busy!
Can you spot Flyn?
All walking down the third drive - which is when the camera battery ran out!
At the end of the day I nearly lost Flyn
It was so frightening and all my fault
I was driving back the L200 with another picker upper and all our dogs in the back. We stopped off at the shop (parked on the opposite side of the road) and went in to buy a few bits and pieces. When I came out, I immediately saw that Flyn had jumped out of the back and when he saw me he started to run towards me - just at the moment a car came
I screamed (God knows what that was meant to achieve!) and thankfully the car was going slow enough to see what was happening and stopped. He very courteously let me cross the road and get Flyn before driving off again.
OMG - you have no idea how upset, angry and every other emotion you can think of I was. If it hadn't been so snowy and icy that car would have been doing twice the speed and I doubt he would have been able to stop - it really doesn't bear thinking about
