Snugga Hood disaster !!

From a very stupid mistake on my behalf, our haflinger pony was found this morning with the snugga hood i had put on to keep her clean before the show today pulled back over one of her eyes! The eye has swollen up and is weeping. We have spent the morning hold hosing and bathing it to reduce the swelling and it is now getting better - her upper eye lid is just swollen now. My urge is that owners don't make the same mistake i did and ensure that their hoods are secured and safe( even though I thought mine was) and that they never get used out in the feild!!
 
Seen this happen a few times, the eyes normally go down in a few hours half day.

I get mine altered to fit now and make the eye holes much bigger, my lady does it for £3.

You have got to check that when they put there heads down that it doesn't ride up at all.
 
Was this a proper 'Snuggy Turnout Hood' or another lycra hood?

I use a snuggy hood all through winter & have never had it slip over the eyes. Ears often go astray though!

My ordinary lycra hood had a warning on the packet not to use for turning out.

Try teabags for bathing the eye. Vet gave me this tip, & works for humans too.
 
It was a lycra hood - which says suitable for turnout and stabling :\ we've used it several times before without any problems but this time has just been awful :(

Her eye is pretty much down now - no damage to the actual eye ( thank god!!)

Just have to complement her on how good she has been through the whole experience !!

We were in the barn last winter (horses can come in and out of barn as they please) and could hear a horse coming down the track very slowly. When we looked out the hood had slipped and he coudlnt see at all. I was amazed that he actually managed to walk back to the barn
 
I always used to tie in between the eyes to avoid that situation ( see photo) and I never had that problem occuur.

Same i returned my snuggy hood for this reason too. They swore it had never been reported before, but no matter how many times it was altered and fitted it did this. They said they would refund my money, I'm still waiting a year on!
 
Horse at my old yard lost an eye because of this type of accident - and that was to keep a chesnut clean for a show - the owners wish to god they had got up an hour early to wash a face, rather than the misery poor animal went through and now has a washed up career
