Although I use full neck turnouts horse is like a hippo and gets mud right down his neck and welded into his (pure white) mane.
I hate it! I also don’t have time for it!
He has a Snuggy hood which is perfect and does a great job, other than the fact he hates it. He also has one with no ears (just incase that was ok!) still hates it.
Also has a headless one which is helpful and hes very happy to wear but it falls down and he is still caked in mud.
This year, so far I’ve just carried on using a sweetitch hoody as an under rug and it’s perfect. The ear holes keep it in place. I have a few and wash/wear on repeat!
They are not really mud/waterproof though and being white isn’t ideal.
So I wondered could one be professionally altered, it’s not a me job!
I had one repaired once that had been shredded in a game of bitey face and they replaced the lower half of the head with fleece. It was amazing.
So I wondered if it would be worth cutting the face off around the same lines as a SI rug, so it still has ears and does up under the throat but with no face covering?
Could that work? It’s an expensive experiment if not!
I’d give it a try with my old one but it has a zip and so that won’t work. It needs to be pull on.
