They are not waterproof but showerproof. They are made of a stretch material that is designed not to rub. In fairness, Snuggy does not claim that they are waterproof.

Edit: the term they use is "water repellant". IMO if you were to use them to turnout on a daily basis in wet weather you'd need 2 - one to wash/dry and one to wear.

I have 2 Snuggy hoods, the complete head and neck. My pony wears one all winter. I wash and change them when wet or muddy or twice a week if it is dry.
They are not waterproof but the rain doesn’t seem to penetrate unless there is a prolonged downpour.
I have used a fleece wash in proofer on them which seems to help.

Agree although they don’t claim to be waterproof mine does come in dry underneath usually.
I’ve only used the headless one this week as I now have a horse who isn’t keen on things on his face but has a white mane which even under a neck cover gets minging. It was amazing the first 4 days but today he came in a bit muddy on the top quarter of his neck. I think it had folded in a bit and therefore got mud inside. I’ve washed it tonight hoping that will rectify things. I’m impressed that it actually stays up and in place so well!

Does anyone have a Snuggy Hood Turnout Headless waterproof liner?

Do you rate them....are they really waterproof?

I have two - one is sold and will be posted tomorrow, the other is still for sale! I can't comment on their water repellent properties because their fit on my cob was comically poor - they seem to be designed for TBs, or anything with a narrow to medium chest and a very loooong neck. On my 15.1hh cob, the belly strap of the Large size didn't do up and the neck was about 50% too long. He looked like he'd borrowed a giraffe's pyjamas! So before you buy one maybe borrow one to make sure it fits your horse's shape. I didn't, and am now having all the hassle that comes with trying to sell things on FB

(I was very disappointed because they are clearly well made and durable products)

I have had the same problem with my mare, they are beautifully made but just don't fit her chunky body.

My friend has several for her grey TB and they really work.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one - I tried them both on him about three times because I kept thinking perhaps I'd done something wrong the last time....but no, just not the right shape. Oh well. Perhaps we should lobby them to produce a native / cob range? I have no idea how anybody would get one on a maxi-cob...perhaps they made a custom one specially for him....

No, it's not just you. I even messaged them to ask if I was putting it on wrong but I wasn't. She just has a wide chest with a short and chunky neck, so it is just the wrong shape for her. Such a shame because I really rate them.

I have 2. I don't find them waterproof in heavy rain but they are good for keeping mud off the neck / mane. They look more comfortable than a normal rug neck, pull out less mane and protect the shoulders from rubs. My WB has a chunky neck and wide head. There is no way that the version without a zip can go over his head. XL is only just big enough width wise and it is certainly too long but he just wears it wrinkled up. The no zip large only just went over the head of a very patient 16h ISH and was a good fit for this type of horse once it was on. The material is not as robust as a rug neck so if, like me, you have a rug biter you will end up with a lot of holes, snuggy do provide a piece of spare material so you can do your own repairs.

It's a Large I think. It's the headless version with a zip, but the base of the zip was broken when I bought it so it's been repaired by the locally saddler - it's a good repair but obviously it's no longer perfect so I only want £20 for it. Drop me a message if it would be of use to you or you want some photos - postage is a fiver (I just shipped the other one off this morning!)
