Does anyone use snuggy jams as under rugs in the winter? If so do they stretch/slip back in the way fleeces, thermatex etc do? They would be used on a tb type under 2 mw (or 1 mw, 1 hw when very cold) combo rugs (I find standard necks slip back if the under rug and rub withers badly, hence combos).

Secondly, what are people's experiences of the hoods? Good? Worth the money? Zip or no zip? Do they slip or move at all? How do they compare to the hoods on the sweet itch/bug rugs as have been using this as the base layer but have found the hood has been slipping down and rolling up which could become tight around her neck, hence my hesistation...

No experience with the jams but we have a snuggy hood (indoor fleece type). It is excellent and never moves. No zip here. Just put it over the head like a pair of tights. Even works with my scaredy TB. Does not take them long to get used to it.

I left my boys Snuggy jams on for one night as an under rug when he was still out 24/7 in the autumn. Next day I got him in to ride him and they had slipped back and dug in around his chest/shoulders.......wasn't happy so didn't put them on again. He now has a white scar/hair on his shoulder where it dug in!!!!!!!! :( Will never, ever use them again, I'd use the hood again, but never the body rug. So upset they did that to him, and yes it was the right size for him and I'd never had any problems whilst he was in the stable.

no clue about the jams; I bought a snuggy hood recently (no zip) and it is probably the best thing I have bought - horse seems happy enough with it being put on and I think he likes being kept a bit cosy as hes a bit of a weed with the cold!

Saves me lots of time de-mudding expecially as my horse HATES mud being brushed off round his face/ears/neck.

Use the jams if cold, love them but mine have no wither. Have the headless jam covers too, not tried as yet. The headless turnout zip was a disaster with my cob, the zip was faulty. Snuggy hoods were slightly funny with me, sent it back and replaced it but it went again with in 10 days. According to my textiles tech, the wrong type of zip to use. Anyway in the end took the zip out and sewed seam up.

Jams fab, well worth waiting just till Christmas or get them at Olympia as show offers good.

I tried snuggy jams but slipped right back, poked out of the back of rug & he poo-ed on it, belly flap ended up so far back he filled it with wee! Delightful,I bought them in the jan sales & sold on through eBay & didn't lose any money.

Be careful of the hood (I take it you mean the one covering the head with eye holes?)

YO put this on her horse and it slipped and covered his eyes, he panicked and bolted round the fields, destroying fences and cutting his legs badly.

I've got the Snuggy Hood (without the zip) and next time would get the one WITH the zip as my boy is a total fruitloop about having the cussed thing put on. He hates it and its always a struggle. Which is why last week I left it on for a few days coz I'm always rushed in the mornings and this was the simplest solution - it didn't seem to bother him that it was left on him as a sort of bib/under-rug, he didn't seem to notice at all TBH.

I have had bad experiences in the past with ordinary lycra hoods, the thing slipped and got over my boy's face, BUT bless him he wasn't silly - but I personally would never put on this sort of hood and leave the horse unattended for any length of time. I'm lucky in that I've got my own place and so can keep an eye.

Apparently if the thing doesn't fit/needs adjustment or mending then the Snuggy Hoods people WILL do it for you.

They will adjust the hoods but with mine they refused to take measurements off me just insisted on making the nose and eye holes bigger. Again within an hour the turnout hood slipped over her eyes ans very nearly caused damage. I was livid and had some very curt emails back from snuggy. They said they would refund me in the end but despite chasing I never did get the refund.

I've used the Snuggy hood over summer for my sweetitch girl, despite buying the right size and removing it daily and checking, it rubbed her face/nose and she now has white scarring, not a good look on a jet black pony..............

Love mine have the sweet itch one for one pony and he wore it 24/7 it never rubbed him and he's been pretty easily rubbed by other rugs. Wore it in the field over night and in the stable and never slipped over his eyes.

Also have a set of the jams for each pony and never had a problem with coming over eyes, have found the rug part slips back slightly if the hood isn't on underneath. Nothing drastic though and still use them separate and together. Use the hood instead of a bib and stops shoulders getting rubbed.

One hood has a zip as wasn't the size i needed without and got it in sale, lucky really as pony its for doesn't like them over his head. Don't have a preference, thought I wouldn't like the zip but it is handy.

I have 3 snuggys (1 turnout hood for each of the girls then a sweet itch one I got as a set) and a sweet itch body. All fits my girls like a glove (on both of them, wearing their respective sizes!). Never moved an inch.

Hoods are dangerous and should be banned. Would never put my horse at risk with them silly things. Serve no purpose apart from causing serious eye injuries.
