So my money is burning a hole in my pocket and after receiving no horsey christmas presents this year I am itchy to buy something :D.

Should I not already have 30 rugs for the coloured one I would of hit robinsons with force however I am unable to convince OH that yet another rug is needed, as most of them are cluttering up the wardrobe opps!.

So after some internet searchings I have decided upon a snuggy hood and was just wondering peoples opinions off them. With the coloured beast being filthy at the best of times im thing it may be a good investment.

However I am concerned as to how waterproof they are and is it really worth get the one with the zipp?

I'm also tempted by the snuggy jams ;) I should not be allowed to shop!

Hot chocolate and cookies to everyone :) x

The turnout hoods are not completely waterproof, but they keep most of it out. Definitely get one with a zip, saves lots of effort trying to get them over the face!

dangerous things, I think, to wear in the field, any make

I have the jimjams, don't rate them, too thin, badly made, slip behind high wither and rub. The Dress Circle jimjams are thicker, warmer and a better higher fit on the wither and a third of the price.:)

Best thing I have brought this year to help keep the hippo horse clean!

I invested in the navy turn-out hood with zip and ears. Well worth it! Doesn't slip at all (despite the horror stories you hear - but I believe that happens more with the cheaper imitations) keeps the horse clean and shiny, although he always seems up for a good scratch when it is taken off :)

Get some snuggy jams aswell - I really want some ahaha :D

Fantastic - the only way I can cope with my TB hippo in winter. Keeps him nice and dry underneath even in the rain.

Underneath all the mud, when I take his hood off is a beautifully clean head and neck.

Buy it - it was the best money I spent on my horse in winter. I have used the same hood for 3 winters now and it has worked brilliantly. The Zip is essential as it makes it really easy to pull on and off. And it means the hood is tight enough to stay put. It has never slipped in all the time I have used it . and he has been out 24/7 in it loads of time.

I recently bought a snuggy hood turn-out hood with ears and no zip, I don't have a problem putting it on and off and it really is fantastic for keeping them clean and saves an enormous amount of time, the only slight problem I have with it is that my 14.2 TB X Cob doesn't particularly enjoy her hood and rubs her head on the fence which means that occasionally her ears slip out of the ear socket and become folded against her head! Although she doesn't seem to mind when this happens it can be annoying.
But overall it really is a fantastic product and although the price initially is off putting they are very well made unlike cheap rival copies - go for it!
I've wanted to get the snuggy-jams for a while but I will have to save up for next winter!

Hi,

2 of my horses have them, one with a zip and one without. My horse that wears the pull on one has started panicing when I pull it off, something he was fine with for several weeks but now shoots back when I get it almost off his head. They build up static and cause electric shocks as you pull them off, this is, I feel, what has caused his worry. The zip one is much easier to remove as you can lift the neck part up off the horse's neck to prevent the static before removing it(if you get my meaning).

The other thing I will say is, although they are lined with a silky section to prevent the mane from wearing away it doesn't work on horses with soft, fine manes. My black horse lost almost all of his mane, looking like he had been hogged, within 7 days of daily wearing and my chestnut horse whom has a good thick strength of mane lost quite a huge section of his over about 3 weeks of daily use. If this is not a problem for you then they certainly do keep them clean. Make sure you don't place them over any other type of shoulder saver or rug as they do cause them to slip. One of our livery horses had the whole hood hanging off over his head/face with no visability at all (it had been placed over the top of a silky shoulder/mane saver). Luckily, he stood at the gate waiting to be rescued, something that could have ended rather differently had he paniced!

works really well for mine -another mud hippo who unfortunately is grey. Don't bother with the head only if you have a real roller - mine managed to dislodge his but can't get the full neck off. Only was I did have to put on some faux sheepskin around the nose as it was rubbing him for some reason, but brilliant (and I also went for ears and zip)

Well I like the idea but my pony doesn't get on with it. I think if she wasn't on grass livery it may be ok, but even with me taking it off every 2 days it rubs and slips (checked with snuggy hoods who say this is fine to leave it on that long). I've sent it back to snuggy hoods with measurements and they redesigned it to fit her better, they even lined the nose and eyes for me as it was really rubbing her badly, I was impressed with them even though it took a bit of hassling. Still it rubs her withers, last week it came up over her eye and caused a huge infection. Needless to say now she's not wearing it and such a waste of money as can't sell it as it's been altered. I won't be getting one again unless I move her onto some form of stable livery where she can have 12hrs or so without it on.

As you can see, ive just bought some jams at Olympia. I thought bargain! £15 off the website price, well i was going to buy them anyway.

Trouble is that after day 3 they slip off the same ear and his right ear remains pinned back after 5 mins of waring it. I can say im that happy about this minor grumble, so will be phoning them on wed for advise, ill let you know what their customer service is like!
