I'm interested in buying a Snuggy Hoods Turn Out Head with ears for my horse as I am fed up of frantically scrubbing his brown/green (he's meant to be light grey) cheek before a show and just generally.

Does anyone have any experience of them? I doubt that slipping would be a problem if I bought the right size, and he's in at night, so it wouldn't be as much of a problem.

The main thing I wanted to ask though, is whether it is worth the extra money to get a zip? Where do they put them and are they strong? It's just that with ears and a zip, something which just keeps some of his head a bit cleaner is £50  so I'm not sure whether it's worth it - suggestions?

Absolutely fantastic - mine wears his as he is the dirtiest mud wallowing hippo you can imagine and without it I am grooming for hours - even then the muddy dreadlocks can defeat me. his Snuggy hood is exactly as you want, ears and zip and it never slips or rubs. it is fantastic. Absolutely well worth the money

excellent I have 2 with ears and zip my clipped cobs out 24/7 ring the girls at snuggy hoods they will help you and r realy nice these are the best hoods don't slip you can get a heavier one i would deffo get ears and zips.

if you have a gray - zip and ears. If you have a confirmed roller, don't waste money (like I did) buying the head only version as mine DID manage to displace that. He is just wearing the version with the neck, ears and zip and can't shift that one. Much to his immense disgust!

Have ears and a zip on mine (she is a grey and there is no point in having a grey head and brown ears!! The zip is also well worth the pennies, so much easier to put on, and much easier to ensure the mane is laying nicely underneath it.

I have a Snuggy Hood with ears and zip for my TB. Having the zip definately makes things easier. Only thing I notice is when he rolls/shakes an ear sometimes comes out, it used to bother him, but doesnt anymore. The best investment ever :)

Well I've got the neck cover version with zip. After the first night I found the hood lying in a heap in the middle of the field - the zip had broke! Snuggy Hoods told me to send it back but TBH I couldn't be bothered and its gathered dust every since...!

It depends of your horse is particularly bothered by things being pulled over it's head!I use the pull on ones as my pony will just stand while I put it on. I can imagine that a zip would make life a lot easier but a lot of money! Although snuggly hoods are the best hoods out there by far!

Thank you all for the replies!

From what you've all said, I think I will get one with a zip then (maybe even one with a neck if a bit of money comes my way this Christmas :)) :D He's generally good with things on his head - he didn't panic when a rug ended up on his head before (it was blown by the wind while I was quartering), but I don't want to struggle so it sounds worthwhile.

^^^ all very encouraging - I'm looking forward to not having to wash his head so often - who'd buy a grey, eh?

i have one with a zip and ears for our grey mare . they are fantastic and she has lived in it all winter. i managed to get a second hand one off ebay but from the snuggy hood company so a bit cheaper.
