I am considering buying a Snuggy turnout hood for my Tb mare...but am worried that it will end up over her eyes.
What are your experiences of these?
(It's either a hood or a sandblaster for getting the mud off.)
S :D

I could not cope without mine on my disgusting hippo

I have used it for 2 years and have never had a problem with it slipping. It is a zip through one rather than just a pull on so I think if it probably much closer fit than the pull on version

Get the sandblaster...it would be a better investment...multi functional :D

Although I don't have a turnout, I did have a fleece and a friend has the sweet itch hood, nothing bad to say about them :)

Had one for 8 years... never moved. Several horses up my yard have then. No problems

You just have to make sure it's not too big I reckon

I had this problem last year. Bought what I thought was a good turnout hood. Seemed to fit fine. Bought Barney in that afternoon and genuinely thought he had been kicked in the eye. His eye and lid were all swollen and puffy, but no broken skin. I realised when it happened again that it was the hood. It had ruched up around his eye and must have been chaffing his eye all day, bless:( This time at Your Horse live, I invested in a Snuggy Hood. He has been wearing it all week and it fits perfectly, doesn't move at all. May seem expensive to start with, but better than a vets bill.:D

If you don't have a combination of playful geldings/colts in the field, you should be fine.

Many a time I found outs with the snuggy sweet itch hoodies all in the wrong places. One looked like the grim reaper with his black hood all pulled down off his face, another had his nose cut because they had in their infinite wisdom pulled it down and over his nose so one eye hole was around his mouth. The other normally escaped it all by being the scariest and therefore least likely to attract boyish playing, but his did have a tendancy for the ears to come away from his actual ears, giving him the look of a depressed mule.

... but with a 22 year old mare I'm guessing you'll be fine! ;)

My boy would have to be washed every day without it. I've got two - one for when the other's in the wash. Never had a problem in 3 years of use. Don't get the head version - it was pretty useless. I have the full zip & ears version.

Mine does the 'depressed mule' impression quite frequently after a roll, but a good shake usually rectifies it!

Love them! Infact, kicking myself for not putting one on my beautifully white, fully clipped pony today! I even folded all three up and put them away neatly this morning. Also have the Snuggy Jams.

great to hear i've just ordered one, love the photos of the muddy pony-that is some mud did you need a mechanical hoist to get the rug off, must have been some weight ha ha

Mine looks like he's rehearsing for a panto in his!

They're great, although few holes through hawthorn bushes. Still in it though.

Well I went to bring a horse in at work the other day who was wearing one, and he had managed to rip it in half! One of his eyes were covered and the other half was hanging down like a scarf! He didn't seem bothered about it thank goodness! He did look funny though! :D

I don't want to put a spanner in it but someone on our yard had one fitted by snuggy hoods lady herself at pUK and it has stretched and now can't be worn as it covers her eyes. She put it on her slightly bigger pony and now it has stretched and does the same to him!

Sounds atypical though so probably a pony thing or something.

I bought one last winter, never used it til this one & now dont want to take it off.

It's bloody brilliant!!

Snuggy hoods told me that if it stretched, the material would be faulty & to ring them up & they would replace it.
