Anyone used them on a Connemara? I'm getting Lottie clipped in a week or two and wondered about some pj's for her? A full rig with hood and belly cover. To stop her getting mucky (she uses her poo as a pillow) and stop her belly from growing back more fuzzy.

Worth it or not? I've always found them a bit odd and maybe unnecessary but as I've bought a grey (who is greying out by the day) it's seeming a better idea... And the sheep etc are kinda cute?

Any good or bad reviews? Do they rub (manes out) or stretch or anything?

Is a Lycra hood that can be used for turnout a better idea?

Or just nothing and a bit of elbow grease?

I take it you mean Snuggy Hoods? If not please disregard this...

I love them, they are worth every penny, after trial and error here are my thoughts

I don't like the full face hoods, I worry about them slipping (never used to!) and they are a faff to get on particularly the fleece ones which are less stretchy

I use the headless hoods which I think are great, they go right up to the ears

I like the fleece body but it isnt the most versatile and I find the fleece hood too unforgiving stretch-wise

I love the lycra body its awesome and dries very quickly

The most useful though are the turnout ones, these are incredibly useful, I use these loads and they wash and dry with no stretching (and I wash them all the time)

if using a turnout hood and body be aware they are two sections so you get a double thickness of material around the shoulder section.

The bug rug is a body with a velcro on neck which means there is no layering of material but I use the separates

I wish the bellys were detachable as they get dirty first, I have customised a few of mine by detaching the belly between the front legs and putting a velcro attachment there. I then buy tattered rugs off ebay to salvage extra belly sections

They must be washed with the velcro done up or they look old quickly

One of my ponies has sweet itch and he lives in these most of the year the only time he has ever lost mane is when I bought a Premier Equine turnout rug with a neck that was too short and it rubbed through the Snuggy Hood. The Snuggy Hood and any other turnout rug I have used have all been fine with no rubbed mane

You do need to remove them and let air get to the mane regularly though, this would be the case with any neck cover

I totally agree with WelshD !

I have one for my hunter which stops him getting muddy in his feild (now bog) and he doesn't mind it at all. Defiantly stops him getting mud on his face and around his ears.

Only problem is with the Lycra ones , if you put them on your horse in the feild they do tend to snag and catch on trees or fences but they still last a long time !

Thanks both.

Yes I mean snuggy hoods I think it was an autocorrect thing lol.

Do you both go for the Lycra ones? I was thinking fleece for in the stable so maybe fleece rug with Lycra hood would be a good combo?

Has anyone tried the short hoods to go under a full neck rug? This might stop the poo on cheek issue and the mud staining too, She has turnout and stable ones that don't rub her mane as she is in a 6'0" rug despite only being about 14.2 so the necks are big on her.

Food for thought thanks.

I have the turnout hoods .
I was very cautious about them but they are really really good , I have the ones with zips and ears they don't slip ,it's the first year I have used them I am very impressed

Agree don't get the ones with the face. I tried one on my mare, getting it on was ludicrous despite paying extra for a zip (it didn't go all the way up so still had to put it over her head). It was too tight on her nose and despite being the most chilled out horse in the world, she really didn't like it going on over her head so I felt the risk of disaster if it did slip and cover her eyes, was too high and sent it back.

Can't fault the company for service however.

Thanks both.

Tried that combo and it did t work as the hood slipped. I do use the full neck with ears and zip and it is a god send. The repair service is pretty good as well!

Lycra hood/ fleece rug woiuld work ok in the stable

I have them all but keep buying the turnout ones as they are the most versatile, they are like the old fashioned jodhpur material so stretchy but thicker than lycra

The short 'heads' are in my opinion one of the weaker products as one hoof up to them or one rub on a gate and they are off, there isnt enough to anchor them in my opinion however they are good quality and if your mare is well behaved in the field are worth a try

I'm a real mud hater but even with just the headless hoods its only a quick brush over with a dandy brush to get rid of mud on faces
