a horse at my yard who is 28 STILL has;
a blanket, a stable rug AND a turnout rug on-in this weather!

It is boiling and all the other horsies have NO rugs on its so hot-i can see the poor girl sweating, but im not allowed to take them off. I havnt seen the owners in ages so cant say anything-YO is very annoyed but is such a nice person wont yell at them, and cant kick them off the yard as they owe her about a years livery money. I feel so sorry for the horsey-sorry just had to get it off my chest!

Sounds like yet another case of neglect!!
Some people just shouldnt own horses, or any animal for that matter!

It makes me so angry. Id go an take some rugs off it, if it was me. I care more about animals than people and if the owener turns up (which it doesnt sound like they will !!) and has a rant, Id deal with that then. The YO should do some thing about it though.

I have a pony the same age and I know she would be boiling too...I would just take the rugs off. If the owners moan then it is up to the YO to state that the horse was suffering and sweating...its not fair...a person walking around in two jumpers and coat would sweat in this heat....

my god take them off.
Otherwise you will have a horse with heat stroke that you will have to pay the vet bills for (seeing as the owner has an aversion to acutally looking after their horse)

If the owner isnt there just take them off.Its cruelty and shouldnt be ignored-PUT THE HORSE first and the waste of space owners thoughts about it last.

Just my opinion.Poor mare.

Poor thing

Can't the YO ring the owner to ask if they could a) pay the bill lol! and b) give their permission for the YO or you to take the rugs off?

OMG, my YO would have just called the owner and if nothing happened then took all the rugs of themselves

Seriously a horse cant be left like that someone needs to take control of this situation preferably the owners and then if not them the YO

ok-ive done it!!after your comments i have just ran up to my yard (flipping heck its actually quite far) and taken them off!I kind of scattered them about so it looks like she got them off(they are all ripped and ruined anyway) she seemed much happier-although tbh she should be put down-she can hardly walk its just not fair on her. At least now she wont be sweating out of her skin-poor girl i think ill keep a close eye on her and look out for her.

I have to say I don't like to advise getting involved in things like these as I fully believe this is the yard owners duty of care.......however I would definitely suggest you take this horse's rugs off! This is cruelty in anyone's books. If the horse can have some respite for even a few hours then you are helping it.

Good job. Well done for doing that. How dreadful that the horse was being made to suffer all those rugs in this weather.

I think I would just sneak in one night and undo a few straps so the under rug and blanket falls off and gets trashed...They really should be more aware of how hot it gets in daytime, I agree the evenings are chilly but one rug at night is fine.
I'd drop hints the weght will fall off it if it stays that hot, horses can die from heat exhaustion if they get too hot.
