I was on dion and vicky was on basil and leading pinks, we had picked her up at the field.
We were coming up through the village and and theres a gravel carpark bit off teh side of the road. well this woman was walking down the road on her fone with dog on extendable lead. We were walking calmly up it. The dog kinda gets a bit excited but nothing much, and she ses to herfone, hang on a min theres some horses and im with the dog. so thought she would hang up and tighten dogs lead, but no, its still loose

we were just passing her when all of a sudden the dog barks, growls and runs straight under pinks back legs, why teh HELL she didnt tighten the bloody lead i dont know.
the dog was running in round pinks legs, wrapping it up and pinks panicked (as you would) and bless her did the right thing just bucking straight up, dunno if she kicked the dog, but lead and collar came of dog and it kinda did a flip (pulled up by lead? kicked? dunno) and buggered off through dions legs.
So bas and pinks had buggered off up the road with vix
and dion was panicking into the wall as the dog had run under her.
The dog pulling had knocked the woman flying so she had gone down on her face on teh road.
There was a car coming down just in front of vix but thank GOD she stopped, turned engine off and got out 2 help. The post man was also there and he helped the woman up.
We regained control and vix turned back, asking if the woman was ok, explaining there was nothing she could have done etc.
The womann was a right cow, didnt say sorry or anything just went after her dog.
The postman then told us that the dog had gone for him a few times and the woman in the car also said the dog was a bit of an idiot (she lives near her)

So bloooody hellll

we were just glad we didnt have THYME with us.
and that pinks didnt fall or anything

dunno where dog is now as it pegged it but dont think it was hurt


but stupid bloooody woman, with her lead, if shed shortened it it never would have happend.
It could have been so much worse.

Good Lord! Bet you were shaking like a leaf.

Can't quite believe the woman didn't think to reel the dog in before passing you, those extender leads can be a menace at times.

I know! Some people.
Thankfully all three horses are relatively calm, but if wed been on the twon youngsters goodness knows!
What really annoyed me was she didnt apologise, yes, im sure id want to check my dogs ok, but vicky very nearly fell off and if that car had been coming any faster..,..argh stupid people!!
 
Crikey I tighten my dog's lead when I walk past people, let alone horses! What a stupid woman. Good job she didn't have the time to stand around and argue, I bet she would have tried to blame it on you! Hope the horses are ok and you and your friend!
 
Glad you're alright, but what is it with people don't they have any sense?? Took George out on the road for the first time yesterday and met a quad bike doing a horrendous speed down the lane, I asked him to slow and he just f-ed at me - bless him George was a saint!
 
I know, i manage to walk two dogs on extendable leads and if going past cars people anything they tightned right up and told to sit if necessary
 
I always make sure I have the dogs close to me when we pass a horse and they would get told off if they barked atc at them. There are a lot of dog owners out there that are irresponsible, glad you guys are ok. May teach the woman a lesson to control her dog in future having a face full of gravel
 
Sadly you will get people like this it was lucky then all concerned came out unharmed....remember riding along a bridle path on my TB mare,I went into canter and could feel her getting faster and faster,thinking strange I looked round to see a irish wolfhound up my arse. I pulled up my mare and was sure the dog must have shot into her hind legs, as I turned round, owner came up and said "My dog could have been seriously hurt!" and I replied "Yes and so could have I when we ended up on the road up there,along with your dog who you clearly have no control over,as I must have over my horse,because I could stop her with your dog up her backside!" She walked away without even a Sorry!

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago. The dog was not quite as lucky as the one in your story unfortunately. Amy kicked it in the head, and killed it instantly.

It was very upsetting for all involved.
 
glad you, your friend and all 3 horse are ok.

like you said that could have been a lot worse!

i had a similar situation to you OC the other week when was on some open fields/bridle route. looked round to see if anyone was around, it was all clear so asked for trot, horse was calm so asked for canter, did about 5 strides then suddenly horse shot off in full pelt gallop. Managed to bring back to a trot when i turned round and saw this huge grey hound X come flying at me... horse shot of again and chased me 1 lap of this field horse was terrified and i could not stop! before the owner even came in sight in which i galloped my horse and practucally ran him into the owener with their dog trailind and they were still obliviuos to what was going on. Got my horse to stand still (who was shaking but was being an angel to stand still) and it took over 5 mins for them to try and catch this dog that was barking and biting at my horses legs and face as everyitme owner went to catch it, it ran round the other side. All owner said was that he can get a bit excited when he see's horses and wants to play.. and i rode of feeling a little shaken when this dog got distracted and went to go and chase some other dogs.

hmmm i think some people shouldnt be allowed dogs.
i suppose she was responsible enough to actually have the dog on the lead... but obviously not smart enough to use it

I got chased on the beach on a youngster by a pack of 3 dogs, eventually escaped by going so far into the sea the dogs were knocked back by the breaking surf... owners eventually dragged the dogs off, giggling...
 
As this woman is well known about her dog, i'd be incliined to report her. She has a duty to ensure people safety and if the dog bites the poor dog could end up being destroyed.
