Will keep this brief as don't want to write too much down on an open forum but basically I was riding my mare Saturday and a car came racing towards us freaking my mare and sending her into a bush. I shouted at him to slow down and carried on.

Then I rode my gelding out and was going down an unmade road and the same car came flying up behind us. Car was very loud and my horse took off at a gallop down the road (he is usually very safe on roads) I managed to pull him up and I screamed at the driver who sped past us through a gap that was clearly not big enough again sending my gelding into a bush a narrowly missing us. If my horse hadn't jumped into the bush he probably would of hit us.

Turned my horse out this morning and he looked slightly lame but when I checked I couldn't see anything obvious so thought I was just being paranoid. Got him in this evening and he is hopping lame!! Turns out he has a punctured sole from galloping down the unmade road.

Called farrier who was with us within an hour (love my farrier). Now poor boy is on box rest for a week being poulticed and farrier is coming back at weekend to put shoes and pads on him.

I'm so angry as none of this was his fault and he is now injured because of some inconsiderate ****. Why are people so horrible

Unfortunately it is the dangers of riding on the roads. We have to hack out around the lanes as we have no off road riding here in the winter, I hold my breath sometimes when I hear something approach too fast. I hope your boy recovers quickly!

Agree with above wait around until you see him again and get the local police round to explain to him how a conviction for death by dangerous would ruin his life!!

I had a near miss with an Iceland home delivery van last week, I called their head office, they spoke to the local store manager who could work out from location and time where it was and the driver received an official warning. I was impressed with their attitude.

i'd be sitting on the side of the road where it happened around the same time of day and get his number plate and report him
i did this and the police took it very seriously

hope you poor boy is feeling better soon

I got his number plate which is why I didn't want to go into too much detail.

He is also well known in the area for picking on horse riders. People back at the yard knew who I was talking about straight away

Then the police should definitely be involved before something horrific happens!!

There is a song by Weird Al Yankowitz (spelling?), that really sums up these sorts of drivers. Google Weird Al "I'm An A**h*le", minus asterixes. It may cheer you up a little.

And report him. Passing one horse at speed is bad enough, to do it twice in one day is beyond reckless, and clearly shows that he didn't care about the first incident. Vibes to your boy, hope he recovers well.

If you've got his number plate you can get his address from the DVLA. Maybe horse riders should fight back and dump a muck heap on his drive blocking his car in 😝

Did you contact the police?

Yes I did and they have been about as useful as a chocolate tea cup. I appreciate they are busy with more priority calls but I fear that they will get round to it so late in the day that all it will end up doing is antagonising him again. I called the police as he made death threats to me

doesn't matter
you can not let people like that get away with it he is going to end up killing some body , you must go to the police and get everyone else to report him too !

i did with some horrible
little scum bags who stole some property from right under my nose on the yard last year and they were dealt with same as everyone else even though they had "no fixed abode" they are not above the law and i hope they enjoyed there time in court ,there over night stay , there fine and the litter picking they were made to do

Zero tollerence ! report the person ! if he is a serial speeder then its only a matter of time before someone in the area comes off a lot worse than you !

I have reported him for this very reason as young kids ride down there as it's meant to be a nice quiet road. I am worried though as it doesn't take a genius to work out who reported him and where I keep my horses :(

I know some cyclists wear a 'go pro' to catch any road rage to them on camera. Any chance you could borrow one and get his antics on camera? Maybe get everyone that hacks out from your yard to wear it when they ride at the time/s of day that this idiot is known to be about.

I would also suggest that your YO should be involved as it is her business that will be affected as well as hopefully avoiding any injuries.

We was actually discussing this today and said that we should probably all get cameras. Not just because of this idiot but because there are so many other idiots too

Kelly - I have been there and know exactly how you feel. I was lucky I had an independent witness and so the speeding driver who continually pipped his horn while over taking me (horse just broken, third time out very early on a Sunday morning) got points on his license and a £500 fine. I was a jibbering wreck & worried after I reported him that he would comeback and find us. I admire you & support you for reporting this person

helmet camera's are getting more affordable now and then you will have good evidence if/when he does it again
i can understand your worry that he knows where your horse is kept but if he behaves like this every time he passes a horse on the road i would imagine he wouldn't know who had reported him as it could be many people

if as many people as possible report him he can't retaliate to everyone ,i'd be a little patient and gather as much evidence as possible , wright things down , when and were it happens and then go back to the police and demand they take you seriously

i'd def report him to the police and see if you can get a friendly reporter to do an embarrassing article in the local paper. I love the muck heap idea.

Thank you, that means a lot. I don't have a witness though so it's my word against his. I felt I had to though as if anything happens further down the line (not just to me, to anyone) then the police will question why no-one ever reported anything

Well done for reporting it, amazon do helmet cams for about £20 with decent quality picture. If this idiot is a regular on your roads, may I suggest you invest in a helmet cam, that way you will have evidence if it happens again. Hope your horse is mended soon x

I'm so sorry to read a story like this again. It really makes by blood boil. I hope your dear horse makes a full and speedy recovery. In the meantime, report the ******* to the Police, then get a farmer friend with a full tank of slurry on the back of his tractor and go and let rip all over his car or better still find out where he lives and pebble dash the front of his house!

Hope the police sort him out! What people like this don't seem to realise is that if God forbid the worst happened, they'd be in a bad way themselves; however selfish they are, you'd think that might make them think. Hope your poor boy recovers soon.

How horrid for you.glad your all ok

my advice

make mental note of his license plate report to police
get a hat cam to record evidence for when u report this tw*t

Report it report him

Doesn't matter if no one with you, police put a black mark against his lisence plate 3 of those and he will be dealt with, the last one i reported, make, the place it happened, the time, the colour, the make. One of the liveries b/f, a cop came up later saying " i here u reported a car " " i said yes they said they would put a mark againts his car, " " they have they said and gone round to speak to him. "

i have also brought a dash cam so any 1 being stupid or accident i have proof, this one is BRILLIANT

Yup I reported a pig farmer/driver for pipping his horn and chasing our pony down a road the Police took it very seriously and went to the farm and had a word

I've heard that he is of a certain community though (very very upper class end though might i add) so I think he thinks he is above the law anyway.
Is he royal?... Stinks :D maybe try throwing something at his car next time, if you get the chance.

Dash cam a great idea. I found that when i had the honda crv I used to get really abused (by men mostly) oh woman in 4x4. I never have any trouble in OH's BM or daughters yaris, so i'm sure it's down to the car. Drive an ML now which looks less of a 4x4 again, no issues in 6 months.

To be fair to our travelling community, i've always found they do slow down as they know horses can be silly, and have never had any problems. It's the parents dashing out of the private school in fancy cars that are more inconsiderate.

I did the same thing with a company whose lorry came flying past me doing 50 in a 30. Their attitude stank, told me to get a life and that horses shouldn't be on the roads and that their tacho in the lorry would prove he was doing the limit. I generally avoid riding on the roads these days if I can, not worth the bother.

Gosh, I think a letter to the papers and lots of Twitter posts would be their just deserts, disgusting!
