So annoyed! Lied to about horse?

having backed hores for others, on and off for many years, but plenty a few years ago, my OH learnt PDQ that owners rarely tell the truth.
eg - and all these are true
' I ve a 4 yr old to back' [ in reality this meant ' I ve taken my 4 yr old all over the country and no one has succeeded]
'All you need to do is the backing. he lunges really well, and has tack on'. [ this means they ve tried more than they re letting on , and discovered its not as easy as they think]
'He s such a poppet , he ll be soooo easy to back' [ spoilt, bity, bad attitude]

or the opposite. One client had a fairly ok Welsh cob backed by us , he was just a little nervous. She wrote an article on how SHE had 'tamed a feral horse'.
Charge a decent rate - £150 shpuld be for a weeks work. Sounds a lot? Not when you re flying through the air ......

Is this the one whose just popped up for sale on a local Page for £650? Glad you have worked out something with owner :) he looks sweet bless him

Ask yourself how much you think he would be worth broken in but green ?? It sounds as though your costs will quickly exceed what he will potentially be worth, therefore you are running a high risk of 'inheriting' a pony you don't need. Personally I would send him back pronto.

This might sound like a daft question... But didn't you go to see the horse yourself and evaluate what work he actually needed so you could quote a realistic price and time scale to get him backed, walking out and returned?

I wouldn't sit on anyones horse for £150!!! Your blinking mad! It should be that PER WEEK to have a horse prof broken.

I charge a minimum of (accoridng to present conversion rates :p) £168 per week for backing. That's 5 rides/sessions and grass boarding (owner provides feed etc) or £225 for full board.

IMO at the risk of sounding like a frightful snob if you price yourself so low, what did you expect?
