Went up to the yard this morning, was doing breakfast for my two. Went to my draw where I have hidden my Danilon for Millie (she's getting one in the morning at the moment) and they were ALL gone.
I was keeping them in my little feed room by my stables but they seemed to be going down quickly so moved them to a drawer and kind of hid them at the back of the drawer.
The problem is I'm 99.99999% sure I know who it is. He asked to borrow 2 sachets 2 days in a row a couple of weeks ago and I said fine, as long as they are replaced. Somebody turned up at the yard while I was ranting to the husband and said she saw this person walking away from where these drawers are, looking sheepish a few days ago and she wondered what he was up to...
The thing that really annoys me is that I work damned hard to pay for my two, go without a lot for myself and this low life thinks it's okay to take my stuff because he can't afford it. It's getting to the point with him that he can't cope with the horses he's got - he borrowed money off someone to get one of his horses shod, he's got a yearling in a field hopping lame and he's still not called the vet after a week, and another in a field with just one shoe left on. Our YO is aware but hasn't said anything to him, various liveries have told him (the livery) he needs to do something about it.
If you can't afford them (he's got 12/13) don't have them..!!!!
Should I really need to hide Danilon in my car for fear of them going missing?!:(
Should I tell the YO that I've had stuff pinched - however YO very rarely gets involved in anything as he's a busy farmer who prefers to let the yard run itself (despite the fact it doesn't work leaving it up to everyone else )

Well, firstly your YO needs to take the welfare situation in hand (obviously).

And secondly, just walk up to this person and ask him when he will be replacing the Danilon he 'borrowed' from you?

You also need to let the YO know that you suspect he's stolen these drugs from you.

oh no hun people make you sick don't they!! I know how you feel I had a HW rug stolen from our locked alarmed tack room

chances are if the guy has 12/13 horses he is at least supposed to be paying your YO a good amount of money, so I wonder how likely it is he will do anything.
You could say that as it is a drug you may call the police, see if that makes him act

If I were you I would get something lockable to put things like that and supplements in. Also keep an eye on other things such as tack and rugs

so upsetting when we can't even trust fellow liveries

At least with me said person has left

I will confront him when I see him - may well have to count to ten several times throughout the conversation though! I really don't know what the YO will do, he really doesn't seem to give a flying fig.

Can you get a cash tin and lock them away in that?

Think that's going to be my only option, annoying though:(

The thing is he never pays on time! He pays for grass livery for most of them at reduced rates but hides them in stables so the YO doesn't see them when he wants to bring them in! Yet I pay full whack on time every month:rolleyes:

This ^^ In fact I would keep the cash tin in my car boot and just take in what I needed. Shouldn't have to be that way, but least it will put an end to it. Do you have a lock on your feed room door? Or is it a joint feed room?

Haven't got a lock on the feed room as it's a spare stable next to mine. Will have a little trip to Staples (that should cheer me up..!) and get myself a cash tin later.

I keep any expensive drugs at home and have the next days supply in my pocket. Keeps temptation out of other peoples way and if they need to borrow some, at least I have the choice.

 Unbelievable! Or do what I have done and get a horse that's in a 7' or 7'3" rug and then no one nicks his rugs as they won't fit anything else :p Someone tried to claim on of S's rugs as hers but it was an old one of C's so still had C's name in it and she could tell them where it had been repaired so they had to admit they were in the wrong in the end. Sad state to be in though :(

If he is making free with your danilon then you can bet your last quid that your feed and that of any others is being "diverted" also.!
The YO / YM needs to raise the welfare issue too.! Agree with others, keep your danilone in your car.

So, what's the suspect going to do for Danilon, now that he's used all yours up?

There could be an interesting conversation on it's way, starting with " I borrowed a couple of your Danilon the other day and....."

Not helpful, but I read this as 'someone stole the rant that I was going to have about danilon', which would have been a very different thread... ;)

Well if he can be bothered to turn up and check his horses we'll see what he does about the Danilon:rolleyes::)
Vet is dropping more off today, I told him what had happened and he's going to hide them for me until I get up there (although I do hope he tells me where he's put them...!:D)

I cant abide ppl like this guy for all the reasons that you have stated, has more horses than he can afford, has to permanently borrow money, eqpt etc.

As he honestly asked to borrow a couple my way into the conversation would be to say to him that could he now return what he borrowed as somebody has decided to help themselves to all your stock and watch his reaction. You are perfectly entitled to ask for the two that he owes you, if you are convinced its him but have no real proof, getting the remainder back may be a problem unless he comes clean - not very likely by the sounds of it.

Keep any future drugs at home and just take to the yard what you require and keep in your pockets.

Depending on how pally YO is with him, approach YO and enquire if he actually knows how many horses this guy currently has on the property. That may shake him up when he realises he's being done out of money, and mention the welfare problem.
The way rescue homes and sanctuarys are today, unless they are walking skeletons they probably wont have room to get involved. Dont bother the RSPCA, they wont want to know anyway, they have to be dead and even then

Sorry this is so long, guy sounds a nightmare. Have you considered moving, but then you generally find a lot of yards have tealeaves until they are weeded out

Its horrible to know your stuff isn't safe on the yard.

We had someone EXACTLY the same on our yard. Luckily shes gone now :D

Was it a substantial amount cost wise? If I was 99.999% sure who it was, and it was a fair amount, and I had witnesses, I would speak to the bobbies. As it is theft at the end of the day.

Sorry to hear this, in the past I have had feed going missing in the end I wrote a not to the effect F off my feed, I can not afford to feed yours as well as my own. I have all vet stuff in one of those plastic box s and have a pad lock on them, its sad when you have to do this but at least they will not be able to help themselves.

I'm afraid on yards where they're not really run by anyone then everything needs to be locked up as there's no comeback on the thieves. At my last yard I left nothing at all out (not even my haylage or bedding). I was even tempted to lock the horse away lol.
