I really do need to get out more and as most of you guys, buy the latest gadget on the market.

I can't believe I've been riding for so long using the bog standard 'normal irons' after riding a horse with a pair of those flexi iron thingy mi jigs, gosh what a different they make! once upon a time I'd of said stirrups are stirrups and make no difference if you have a good seat, balance and have a nice secure lower leg ....they all do the same job....bla bla blaaaa but I hold my hands up and say....

they are a great invention!.....*whilst tucking into my humble pie* so then I started to look round at what everybody els is using and yes, everyone's got em! and there not even expensive so why the heck did I buy myself some new normal irons when for the same price I could of got some of this flexi ones, obviously I'm just not with it.

So what item in your tackroom have you been putting up with or should I say what item have you been missing out on for ages thinking 'narrh its just a gimic' etc etc?

I am loving tail rakes, which have been used to remove feathers, thin out a mane and strip the borders (haven't actually used on a tail as I don't like the pulled effect). Marvellous tool.
 
I wasn't conviced about them, then I rode in them. Five years ago I bought a set and ride everything in them now.

I didn't think different metals made a difference to bit mouthpeices - rode in a NS snaffle, mare went brilliantly, haven't looked back.

Tail rake - tried it, loved it.

I try to be open minded about everything now
 
I have the bendy metal stirrups but they are so heavy, so think I might get some of the uber light black bendy ones (the not so expensive ones) any weight I can take off is good - although waistline could do with reducing.......

Not a gadget but my extended family secret santa bought me a lovely black velvety show rug for xmas with pink binding and straps - can't wait to get that out this year!

Secret santa also bought me some fleece welly liners, which are a gadget I am glad to have atm!

If you are not using a biothane/plasticy/wipeclean bridle for everyday riding, it is well worth looking into that. Just dunk the bridle, bit and all, after every ride and you never have to take apart/clean your bridle again. Fantastic.

Had one of these for several years, but never thought of using for feathers!! Thank you

A rubber mitt thingymabob with conical shaped blunt spikes on it which works better than a curry comb or dandy brush, and my horse LOVES IT. Also keeps my hand clean!
I think it's for dogs, actually.
 
I'm normally quite good with new things. OH laughs, if anything new is advertised or anyone mentions it, I usually go off shopping, Now worried I've missed something.

Can someone tell me where to find more info about these stirrups please. Broke my leg last year and just started riding again last month - ankle's not that good so anything which will help would be good
 
I want some of those stirrups...what does it actually feel like to ride in them? Does your leg feel forced into a position at all? Can you ride in them for a dressage test?
 
No not at all your leg is not forced into a any position, if anything I'd say it give you a better lower leg and your less likely to loose a stirrup etc too, I've not jumped in them but I can only imagine that the would also be better for this too.

I've got a pair of Sprengers and they are fantastic to ride in. They don't feel much different, the only difference being that they are more flexible, so the stirrups don't feel as 'stiff' as normal ones. I noticed that I lose my stirrups a lot less when riding in Sprengers/flexi stirrups than when riding in normal irons. Nope leg doesn't feel forced into a position, yes I'm pretty sure you can ride in them for dressage (I have!). They are invaluable when jumping as they absorb a lot of the concussion that otherwise travels through your ankles and up to your knees. I have really dodgy ankles and knees due to collapsed arches in my feet and a healed ligament in my ankle that I tore, and can honestly say these stirrups have reduced the pain I get when riding a hell of a lot!!

I imagine that these stirrups would have a similar effect to the Sprengers, but I've heard that Sprengers are a hell of a lot better than immitations.
 
I'm inerested in those stirrups, sound very good. I might take a look.

I think I am slow to take up new ideas, but one new product I tried and was really impressed with is the new Equi Tabs wormers. 2 out of 3 of my horses are easy to worm with a syriinge, but one is a real horror. To be able to just feed the wormer like a treat is brilliant
