So-called "Rescue sites" Charity comes out AGAINST!!!

Hang in there, Mrs M...... he sounds cool.........

Hope you manage to find LL a home that you are happy with Mrs M
Re the taking in of 'Franch' horses by BER. I am horrified that some one who has posted on here about needing funds for her rescue, had people organising virtual shows etc for said rescue, is now using that money to import horses who may well have illnesses and/or other health problems.

The article by the horses trust is great and it is nice to read a well written article with real examples of how it can go so wrong.

Just going off on a tangent here a little bit......but is there an estimation of how many French horses have been rescued and imported to the UK over say the last couple of years?

Perhaps I should ask JM07 for a password and offer a bit of help if I can.

Royal will not be coming to the UK tomorrow nor for the significant future. I'm not going to justify myself to a coven of malicious women who cannot tolerate any dissent amongst the ranks or from those who do not adhere to their own prejudicial beliefs.

Say what you will, none of it makes any difference to me.

The sites claim in the region of over 600............

So far, there are less than 25 individuals who are happy enough to stand up and be counted as satisfied forever homes......... even one of the most vociferous is recently selling horses on horsemart........

rofl - he spins, drops a shoulder, handstand bucks, has temper tantrums and throws himself around, ducks out of bigger jumps on last stride (though we blame previous saddles for that), has to be led out in a bridle or chifney, gets laminitis and mild sweet-itch, escapes from fields, has put youngest daughter off horses, and can sh!t for England. But I love the little wotsit. He stays fit, is easy in all other ways, is very cute, and has a brain (though not sure how much of it is working lol).

Sorry, I'm hi-jacking

I find that such a shame, I like to hear both sides of the argument/story and would be interested to hear why you have decided to take on a French horse. You must have very valid reasons in your own mind if you feel that they need justifying.

You don't have to justify yourself to a so called 'coven of women' - however those who have donated to you on the basis that you were a UK rescue that was desperately in need of support might just wonder if you are using their money to buy a French horse and you might feel that they have a right to ask.

Why wouldn't you take a UK pony? LL is living on borrowed time. I offered to help you. I liked you. I don't understand.

Ah I wasn't waffling too much then, many who are involved in the wildlife thing would say - but they then get to go back to the wild. Which they might do but you can't tell them that (and they normally have no monitoring once released)

Some things fair much better than others. deer IMO should be left completely alone, I saw my first deer brought in when I was doing work experience. at a vets age 16 and thought it should never be happening. but people think they are doing good but I take the view on occasion they are doing for themselves to make them feel good. - there have been other examples.

I love all my animals but am prepared to do the ultimate kindness. My cat is currently on borrowed time and prob won't be here next winter even though he is only 5 but he doesn't know that is having a lovely time and I hope I will make the decision at the best time I can.

Maybe it won't influence you, but what I'm about to post might make others think.

Do you truly believe that DEFRA, the Horse Trust, the RSPCA, WSPA, WHW, REDWINGS et al are a (and I quote you here) coven of malicious women?

I hope your payoff was worth it, be it tangible or emotional......

He DOES sound cool MrsM, but please don't be offended when I say I am rather glad he is yours and not mine!

Lol, he has that effect. Between him and Dizz maybe I should start my own rescue place...
smile.gif
Ah well, so long as I can afford to keep him and keep him out of hubby's radar, daughter will keep learning and he'll be safe.

mrs M I know of one very similar who has been notoriously difficult to rehome. my friend gave up trying to reschool him.

I always wonder whether they would make half decent driving ponies?

But maybe those people who have donated to your site have a right to be listened to, don't you think?

Having been stung by the last HHO charity for Silverrobin was it? and having seen a supposed equine charity first hand (it was shocking
frown.gif
) I vowed there and then to never donate to a charity unless I have actual proof of their good work or seen the place first hand nor would I ever let my own horse go to a charity or retirement home.

I'd be scared to try to be honest

. I think he'd tank off. He'll test every rider and if they tell him who's boss he's fine (just firm riding required); if they are found wanting, he'll ditch them without question. On a lead rope he's fine as well, just too big at 13hh.

As you can tell, I'm still up. I wondered if I'd get a response to my question (not directed at you E

I missed what happened with the previous charity, but have always been of the opinion that my horses are my responsibility and any who have retired have remained with us. That includes one who retired age 12 when we were still at livery. (She moved with us to our own land aged 15 and died aged 25 ish)

You are wiser than me then Ravenwood. I did donate to BER, not a lot but it was money I would normally have given to WHW who I do support regularly. I feel somewhat cheated that it has possibly not gone to help UK horses and ponies as I intended
frown.gif

Ditto YorksG. I have 4 equines here, only 1 is really rideable, the others are a geriatric donkey, daughters first pony who has Cushings, and 2nd pony who is a bit of a fruitcake and was worried she would end up in the wrong home if we managed to sell her

Someone else on here has offered her help, which was very much appreciated (and may yet still be taken up
smile.gif
) - I won't name unless she says it's okay.

I talked to BER about LL, but no room at the Inn. Quoted £300 re-homing fee, though didn't get an email to confirm details.
Maybe I should send him to Franch

What BER was going to charge you £300 to rehome?? Sorry don't know the story of LL?
frown.gif

I thought rescue meant they took them in for nothing? So do they charge you to take them and the rehomer to have them?
confused.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, just seen this FL. Yes, it was a re-homing fee because she wouldn't keep him at her place (can't remember all the reasoning behind it, and didn't get an email with the details). Said he would go on loan, but they'd keep an eye on him. I know what LL is like and I know the state he was when I bought him. If he's going to go on loan, then I want to retain control: hubby thinks I'm mad and it's causing friction(!), but so be it, I'm responsible for LL. Bought him for youngest daughter, short story is he's a pony that's got away with all sorts and keeps on trying to get away with all sorts
frown.gif
Not suitable for anyone but the firmest (but kind) of riders.

MrsM - I think its called filling! does sound like the 11.3 beat like a tank dartmoor x I know. Stacks of ability, good as gold if ridden by someone firm, good as gold on the lead. If ridden on own by child right size for an 11.3 no chance.

He has gone to a local rescue at the mo and they have a 13 yo boy who is going to try and get him going, I suspect he will have him going fine and would prob actually suit a boy.

Mrs M I'm in Cornwall , but if LL can jump I may know of a possible home. PM if you'd like me to speak to them.

So he needs a good strong small rider with guts
grin.gif
That can keep him near you so you can keep an eye on him and maintain the control. I don't blame you. Maybe Zeb has someone I see she's asking you to pm Good luck

You beat me to it peebrainbaby. Surely if there is any rehoming fee to be paid it is by the person who takes on the pony from a rescue centre. Maybe we have misunderstood
