So-called "Rescue sites" Charity comes out AGAINST!!!

[ QUOTE ]
You beat me to it peebrainbaby. Surely if there is any rehoming fee to be paid it is by the person who takes on the pony from a rescue centre. Maybe we have misunderstood

it's like the 'rescue' why not call it what it is buying a horse not rescueing? and a business not a charity

[/ QUOTE ]As I understand it, Mrs M has to pay a fee for BER to take the horse and BER also recieves a fee from the person taking the horse on......I dont know how other charities do it.......I understand BER is applying for charitable status too

If I remember rightly, there was something about the people who take the pony also paying a fee, but I didn't get an email to confirm all the info. I remember being surprised by it, but I'm new to these things.

Yes that's what I thought. I wonder where the charity bit comes in

Mrs M I'm in Cornwall , but if LL can jump I may know of a possible home. PM if you'd like me to speak to them.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thankies. He can jump, but can put in last minute stops
frown.gif
We think that as he has a good slope to his shoulder, the points on previous saddles have been too long and dug into him on landing (think weight of saddle and rider onto those two points of most contact
frown.gif
). He gets a pnic stricken look on the last stride and slams the brakes on. We're trying to teach him that it's not going to hurt
smile.gif
. I think, jumping apart, he'd be a great hunting pony as he's great in company.

as long as you don't clear a profit I spose.

most private schools have charitable status, cos they don't make any money it gets put back into the school even though teachers salaries etc will also be paid. not what most would think of as a charity but they are for tax purposes I believe.

my old school has a charity number...............

But who would know? I think getting a not for profit charity status (which they pay for) is quite easy. I am fast becoming a non believer in charity status I'm afraid. Charity begins at home.

But maybe those people who have donated to your site have a right to be listened to, don't you think?

[/ QUOTE ]

Having been stung by the last HHO charity for Silverrobin was it? and having seen a supposed equine charity first hand (it was shocking
frown.gif
) I vowed there and then to never donate to a charity unless I have actual proof of their good work or seen the place first hand nor would I ever let my own horse go to a charity or retirement home.

[/ QUOTE ]

As far as I know Silverrobin is an in these circumstances innocent person. The one you're thinking of was Silverflorin. JustJaney helped her set up some photo competition where the money would go to Silverflorin's rescue and then, as I recall, it turned out that she was another one of those rescuers that give good rescuers a bad name.

ok, a little offtopic, but given BER's obvious dislike for those who are trying their utmost to put a stop to the 'rescuing' of the Franch horses, is it not possible that BER was the mole that put all the hard work in jeopardy and not Tia?

Off track slightly - sorry! I donated to Silver Florin - never got so much as a thank you. I didn't donate to get thanks, if you see what I mean, but it would have been nice if she had acknowledged the fact that I had sent her some of my very hard earned cash that I could little afford to fritter on fraudsters. Grrrrr.

.

Someone else on here has offered her help, which was very much appreciated (and may yet still be taken up
smile.gif
) - I won't name unless she says it's okay.

as i said, he's most welcome

TBH Moralcampaigner, with you now courting pastures new, what you have to say is of total irrelevance and old news.....

Say what you will, none of it makes any difference to me.

Sadly i didn't think any differently...

I feel the same, I donated what to most is a small amount to BER to me it was 1/2 my weeks shopping money & I now feel a total fool and taken for a ride....Next time it will be given to the WHW, Redwings or The horse trust

I would just like to say a big thank you to those who have offered support, there have been an awful lot of people working hard in the background while taking abuse online and with some malicious phone calls...

Not one Anti as they like to call us went off crying about it we just carried on and its fantastic to see DEFRA and the Proper horse charity's taking action.

Thank you all once again xx

The work done behind the scenes to acheive a political change in low end horse imports has been spectacular, and hats off to those who have been involved.

Wouldn't it be nice though, if we could just work on that without, yet again, getting into individuals, personalities, and ancient and more recent history.

I know how you feel

and I'm sorry.
I will only ever donate to real causes from now on, as I too gave money and time.

Yes it would an I do think this thread has gone a little off track, Its fantastic The Horse Trust has released the statement in OP now to battle for more changes to the TPA
grin.gif

Wish us luck & we may need some more letter writing done

Is it worth starting a separate thread just to highlight the fact BER are now buying so called French rescue horses?

I thought about it yesterday but just wasn't 100% sure that it was true, given the BER has now posted stating that she is buying this horse it might be worth highlighting to other users who may have just read JM's first post and didn't take on the challenge of this rather long thread!

I feel people deserve to know that if they give money to this not for profit comany (I refuse to call it charity as true charities do not buy horses!) they are supporting the import of low end horses from France.

You are absolutely correct MH. This latest statement from the Horse Trust is testiment to that.

no need for a separate thread from myself PS as that particular subject is NOT what this thread is trying to highlight...

I appreciate that's technically not what this thread is about which is why I am suggesting a separate thread to make other user aware of EBR change in opinion.

If you wish to do so yourself PS, then there is nothing to stop you if you feel it is of interest to other users. However, personally I would prefer to concentrate on the wider issues that this thread has raised.

Can I also add my thanks for the support we have received on this. Beavering away in the background is sometimes repetitive slog but to see the results we are getting and the support from you guys is making things really worthwhile.
