A few weeks ago my mare spooked at a banner in the school and i came off, lost all my confidence in the school and back and so did she..She's almost 5 and green but ever so willing and so special to me..Anyway...we went back to basics; groundwork in there, lunging etc but i still couln't pluck up the courage to get back on in there, im fine hacking her, she's a star on the road. So last night i had a lesson in there and was told to think of it as a chilled out hack, had quite a loose rein and she was lovely, didn't feel stressed at all and we even made it passed the "spooky" banner! AND! we went over two small jumps! WOW! What a great feeling it is to have my confidence coming back...:)
It made a huge difference to have someone on the ground, im going to continue with the lessons as we both need some expericed advice and tuition.
It's awful to lose your nerve, i kept focusing on the bad time (only 1 so far) and forgot the brill times i've had with her.

So anyone who's having a confidence problem...get someone to give you a bit of support and SMILE AGAIN!!!...I've been beaming!

Hi Express and good for you! I had a nasty fall (buck off) inthe school and felt pretty much the same as you. But I made myself a tape of my favourite music - stuff you could ride different paces to - and first had some lessons with a trusted instructor with the music playing in the background, then graduated to riding in the school on my own (instructor got fed up when her only role was to change the tape!) singing along to my happy music.
