im not activly looking for a horse atm, but will probably be realtily soon so have just been flicking through websites and there is nothing about-or they are ridiculous prices!

i will just want something i can either go out and event PN type level with potential to go on, or buy something a bit younger that i can start intros on..but again have the potentail to go over PN.

Im really wondering whether there is actually anything out there? i know its winter but surely that makes a lot of horses a little cheaper? so it doesnt seem like i will have much luck coming intro spring.

How about Cruz?! (Just doing a bit of advertising for Holly_Jane)

I'm looking for the same a 4 or 5 year old with the potential to go onto Intermediate or above. The only thing I can say is the big prices are generally not being got and don't be afraid to make an offer. There is a lot out there sitting here researching a few atm!

thanks, i mean in reality i would eventually aim to Novice level-but who knows as my aims are changing all the time-when i bought millie i only wanted to do RC/PC.
Im hoping to get about £7000 for Millie, although we havent had all that much interest(had bloomin timewasters already, but there was sumone incredibly interested last night); which i hope would mean enough money for another one as i wont be able to put anymore towards it.
im really wondering if its at all worth it and if im better of keeping the horse i have and maybe just being more realistic about eventing her, and maybe affiliating BD and keep working her over the winter and see if there is a change.....im starting to wonder if im making the right decision although i know i dont want a season like i have just had.:(
i will go and look at cruz again:p

I'm in the opposite boat...nobody wants my rising 3y.o even though her brother took Supreme at Pavo, 3/4 brother took Reserve Supreme at Pavo and her 7y.o brother is Intermediate

Its a funny old market!

yep, im not looking for anything quite as young, purely as i wont have facilties..i could probably get away with a nice 5 yrold...that has made a start doing things.
i dont even mind a nice 8/9 year old that would give me some good experience.

I look at horses on the market, then look at millie and think..nothign matches up to her!

cruz does look very nice:) i didnt really know that Holly_jane was selling..i did kinda swear that i wasnt going to have a mare though hehe!!

Hey whats wrong with mares! Spider and Cruz are fine!

well my mare is lovely but she can be stubborn and a general awkward horse sometimes and many a time have i wished i hadnt got another mare!..in fact when i was looking for millie it was strictly no mares-but look what i ended up with!

I jumped Boo today for the first time in AGES, he has me grinning from ear to ear, bless his heart. Im kinda hoping that once we get out doing some sj and dressage that my lovely mummy will turn around and say, oh lets keep him

Well friend has just picked a horse up for £1 and it does the job - it jumps and does dressage. They were sick of it and could not be bothered to keep it.
Another I know of is £1000 a 15.3hh TB mare perfectly fine jumps well but the owner is a novice and stupidly bought the wrong type of horse.
I have just sat on a horse bought for £850 good bloodlines, 16.3hh 6yo very green but nothing wrong just needs some weight and some work.

They are out there just keep looking all the above need a small amount of work but there are others out there. There are some deals to be done.

thanks lec- i am prepared to put some work in..iv reallybrought millie on since i have had her-but at the same time , i know you cant gurantee anything, butneed something that will have some potential-and if thats just natural ability and good paces and conformation then thats great!

i need something over 16 hands as well as i am quite leggy...and i like something about Millies build...basically something like millie but with some extra jumping ability~!

My friend has a 16.2hh 8 year old for sale, don't know if he'd fill all your criteria, but she needs a new home for him. Her daughter has gone to uni & she can no longer ride due to a hideous back op, PM me if you want more details. Could be a possible???

I thought I'd never have a horse until I went to Stow Fair six years ago and came away with a thin, gangly, mangy looking 2yr old TBx mare for £25. She took a lot of work but she is now a fab horse with loads of personality and is eager to learn. We're never going to win top class competitions together, but she tries her heart out each time.

OK, look at it this way, you want £7k for your mare which in the posts above you have described as not enough jumping ability, stubborn, generally awkward and you can't face having another season like the one you've just gone through. Realistically if your horse is worth £7K isn't it reasonable to think that one that is more what you want is worth more money? How much extra is a good horse worth?

sorry hadnt actually finsihed my stubborn...blah blah blah sentance...she is now far far better-and not to the point that shes a horrible mare she isnt at all, its just taken time for me, her being my first competition horse to get used to her. My instructor has warned me off mares in the future as in her experience they are harder to train and "let go of their backs" on the flat. She is reasonably priced considering what she has done and achieve, and whats out there atm, and a lot of people who know her have told me they think its a very fair price and is what i have been advised to sell her for. I would be prepared to take less for her possibly.

My neighbour bought a lovely horse last year for £6000 as a young horse and hes the type and experience i want to get...something that had been going out to tiny unaffilated things and with some help of a trainer has now gone PN. I dont mind starting out unaffiliated at all...im not expecting to go and buy a novice eventre for 7000

i really dobt i can go much over £7000 maybe if something ideal came up at £8000-8500 then we would go for it...but at the end of the day thats my parents decision.
thing is everytime someone rings up now and asks about her she really is perfect apart from her sj-ing needing to improve if someone wants to take her furthur, i can ride her very happily on the flat which is an acheivement in itself, and as i said the stubborness is only due to struggling to get her to work over her back-which has now clicked and she is not like it at all.....again the stubborness was just something my instructor has said a lot of mares can be like as they find it mroe difficult; not that she in herself is awkward-which is what i was trying to explain earlier but when i went back to check my post it must have stopped typing.

and i never said i cant face another season like i have had-i said i dont want another season like that-basically i meant i need to do something about it to make it better, as i really do feel like i have failed this last year!

sensibly-priced horses are out there. it's just a case of finding them. not everything that's done a couple of PN is worth £15k, nor are they all asking it. best of luck though, i know it's a nightmare looking for horses.

thanks, i havent explained myself or my horse very well-im guilty of doing that on forums!
im seriously considering keeping what i have got:s

I would say buy a nice 3/4 yo for less money - say 3-5k and spend the money you have extra sending them away to a proffessional so when they come home you can then cope with them !! (sorry you said you didnt have the facilities for a complete baby- unbroken) xx

fran, I feel your pain and depression

I have a mare (I am a gelding person), who isn't at the level I would like to be, we do not get on all THAT well and I keep thinking that she isn't the horse for me and there must be something better out there. On the tin she has ALL the attributes of a superstar, but with me on top it all goes tits up. However, after having a sesh with partoow I feel renewed and am going to give it through the winter to see what I can make of her and me as everything I look at in adverts, that fit the bill for what I want, are absolutely ridiculously priced! So for now, better the devil you know
smile.gif

thanks weezy i am so confused right now thing is iv had her 3 years and have bought her on an awful lot, in some ways i know im doing the right thing, but then again i have a horse who is nice on the flat-stunning to look at and moves well IMO, and xc -nothing phases her.

i don't agree with those comments about mares, tbh. i absolutely adore them, i've had them pull out all the stops for me more times than i can remember, and i've had them amazingly easy and consistent on the flat. generalisations are impossible... for instance of the few i've bred, the 2 chestnut mares were easy peasy and the two bay geldings were total nightmares!

My bay gelding was great to handle from the ground and everything but he could be quite stubben to train if he felt like being an idiot! I loved him very much, when he was good he was really good and would get good scores, if he didn't want to be good then he wouldn't be!
