So does anyone here hunt for reasons other than watching hounds?

Hi Skiddaw-Lad, we're becoming pen pals!

I don't think there's any particular opinion on this thread that will turn an undecided pro/anti the wrong way, afterall they're unlikely to give two hoots about whether you hunt for the following of hounds or for the horsemanship.

For me it is/was the tone of some of those posts and the poster's attitudes (and indeed the bitching, for which I see the poster has apologised so I don't want to drag that up again) that would, most likely, give the impression that the average person you meet out hunting isn't very nice - and as far as I am aware that couldn't be further from the truth.

I'd love to call this a day as we're way off topic but pm me if you want to discuss.

Well I'll not reply to any of yours either MrWoof.. well I'll try!

I was also wound up the other night but we are all allowed an opinion - HHO would be very boring if everyone just passed the time of day!

If you really did get a PM from a MFH that I actually know in real life then I am very sad about that.

I appoligise if Im going to state a point that has already been made as reading all the way through the posts is starting to make me feel a bit dizzy.

I hunt for numerous reasons and enjoy hunting for all of the reasons (or most of them most of the time) I hunt to educate young horses, sharpen up horses reactions, watch hounds, for the social, for the adrenalin rush and just for the pure enjoyment of being out in the countryside with people who think the same way as i do. I have had days where Ive seen some of the best hound work Ive ever seen but hardly left the ground and loved every second of it, Ive had days where Ive jumped a few places that most people turned away from, Ive been out on horses that have impressed me by proving more usefull than I thought theyd be and Ive been out on days that have been bad hunting days, bad weather, never left the ground but the people Ive been with have made it worth being out when other people are stuck in front of the telly. Very very rarely do I come home from a days hunting wishing I hadnt bothered.

I think the point starbucks is trying to make is she enjoys hunting because she is riding a good horse, with good friends and enjoying the countryside and the opportunity to watch hounds is a bonus that makes it all the more special.
