SO Frustrating ARGH!!!!!!

So here's the scenario...

One lame horse, has been since september.

In a field by himself. He wa in with his old field mates for all of a day last month, in which time the boss horse decided to run the wall of death with him through a bog.

Result= big back leg ever since and a bad stifle injury, meanin he is not only sore on his stifle, but crippled and walks extravagantly (not normal).

Fine turned out by himself, but when the others around him come in first at night he runs and has a mini panic, looks sound 'from a distance' then comes in crippled.

Yo is determined that I am imagining things, and of course he will be absolutely fine turned out with the same herd that ran him, on a very hilly paddock, when it's been raining so much it's like a muddy ice rink.

I'm just being silly.

Wtf???????? Are they gonna pay my vets bills and loss of use for at least the whole summer?? Are they Buggery!!!

Sorry for the mahoosive rant but honestly, these people claim to be horse people for christs sakes!!!

I now have the choice of turning him out in said paddock, with almost guaranteed injury, or I can lock him in his box indefinitely.

Not exactly a wondrous choice. He is absolutely fine pottering around by himself, so where's the problem? I'm not even allowed to fence off a small part of a field somewhere because it might 'wreck the grass fo the summer'
 
God what a nightmare you're in , could you move yards or rent a field somewhere where you could have a bit more freedom or better still get one of the other liveries to bring your boy in either with theirs or before so that he's not last out - even if it means paying them a bit of cash or offering to do the same in return? I've been in this situation when i'd finish work and get to the yard last to see my poor old mare fretting at the gate - it makes me sick - it's not hard to bring in two well behaved horses together surely?
 
Moving yards seems to be my only option, but my problem there is lack of transport- I am dependant on buses :(

Don't think we'd be allowed to keep one horse on its own at my yard either. Plenty of yards do though. Hope you find something suitable for your boy.

I generally move yards when the needs of my horses change, moved last year from restricted grazing to grass livery because new horse needed to be out for health reasons. Lovely YO wanted to give me grass livery but with 60 other horses, it wouldn't have been fair.
 
I think I have read your post right... your horse is out by himself but when other horses in adjoining paddocks come in your's goes mad?

Can you bring him in earlier or pay someone to?

Aye, that's true ATM, but it isn't too much as a problem as it doesn't happen too often.

My issue is that the yo has seen this from a mile away and decided that it means he is completely sound and I'm making things up.

She doesn't believe me when he comes in super stiff with his stifle slipping afterwards.

I will be happy to try him with the others, when the field has dried a bit!!! That's all I want, but apparently that's unreasonable :mad:

A week or two isn't really going to make a difference to them, but it's gonna make a world of difference as to whether my horse is wrecked for life or not!!

The field as it is is dangerous for running INJURED horses :(
 
We had a problem at the yard I am on now when I first moved there. One of the horses bullied my gelding badly to the point where he had him pinned in a corner, wouldn't let him move and mine ended up trying to climb over the wall. YO made the owners of the bully horse move it into another field and since then, all has been good.

Same happened with my mare, but not as badly - one horse would stare at her from across the field and then run at her with ears back and teeth bared. Girl who has this horse on loan is a friend of mine and a good knowledgeable horse person. She took the mare out of the field for a week and put it in a field on it's own while mine got in with the rest of the herd - when she put the mare back in after a week it was a different horse and hers and mine are now the best of friends. Sometimes it's the bully horse which needs to be taken out of the equation for a while.

If your horse gets on well with the rest of them and it's just this one which is the problem, then as far as I'm concerned, the bully horse should be moved - just a week in solitary confinement may make it rethink it's ways!

In that case, I think you'd be far better off keeping him in if it's only for a week or two, than letting him go out in those conditions. As others have said, think it's time to move on & find another livery yard - you have got to do what's best for your horse.
 
sorry to hear its got so much worse i thought bully horse was leaving/left? were you thinking of another livery or just a field for the summer because im sure there's a wee yard on the other side of the forest ish might have space same bus route
