I finally plucked up the courage to tell my current yard owners that I've decided to move tobe. I only dreaded it as i've got some great memories from where we are at the moment but its just got to the stage where we really need to progress with his ridden work. Without an indoor school and with the outdoor school getting locked everytime there's only the slightest bit of drizzle we're not getting anywhere.

He's just turned 5 and is way behind seen as i've had to re-train him from his racing days and he's certainly better than what he was - just not where he should be, sooooooo we're moving to a new yard just down the road from where I am now, with an outdoor an indoor school. We're allowed to loose school as well which I think will really help him have a good stretch.

We're also able to buy our own bedding, so where I was spending nearly £900 a year on shavings (yes £900!!) i'm switching to wood pellets which appear to MUCH cheaper.

Pretty excited now but will be sad to leave the old place :( Ive only ever had him at one yard so if anyone's got any moving tips, thoughts and opinions are much appreciated :)

Cheers guys.

A locked school? How odd.

And £900 per year on shavings, wow! You'll love wood pellets at £250 a year. Mine is £125 but she lives out for 6 months ;)

I haven't moved, but suggest you take everything to the new place in the morning, then load up Tobe and take him when you're all set up.

Maybe start giving him Naff Pink Powder now and continue for a few weeks after your move just to help if his GIT is upset.

And yes, I would move everything first and then the horse, so you haven't got to leave him immediatly.

Good luck, sounds like the right move :D

Move your stuff to the yard & get it all sorted out, get your stable prepared & last thing bring your horse to the new yard. Start first thing in the day & gradually get everything done, have a friend help you if you can it just takes the pressure off & everything is easier.

Keep on good terms with the yard you're leaving, it's far better than leaving on a sour note.

Hopefully your horse will settle in quickly but don't be surprised if it takes a little time because his routine will have been altered & he'll be at a new place.

There is a local supplier of wood pellet bedding, buy it as fuel because you only have to pay 5% vat on fuel against 20% as bedding ;)

Why do they lock the school??
wow £900 for shavings!, what ones do you use? I spend around £7 per bale, if you put 2 bales in per week it would cost around £720, but durung the summer I only use 1 so its half that amount.
