I had a lovely, very well bred horse 12 YO (which needed a good rider as he could be sharp), which had been out on loan for 3 years to a very suitable home. As I live overseas I decided I couldn't keep him anymore as I never saw him and couldn't deal with any problems that arose (plus I was still paying nearly all the costs).

I decided that rather than selling him and not knowing his future that I'd offer to give him to the loaner if he'd give him a good home and was certain he wanted him. Now, after 2 months I hear he's thinking of selling him as a younger horse has come along that he wants to buy.

I feel that me and my (ex) horse have been sold up the river. So much for securing the horse's future hey! What do you think? Was I just a sentimental mug?

No not at all,and its not like she has had him a few years and is now selling him either, 2 months! thatis awful.

did she at least offer him back to you?

Sorry, but if you gave the horse as a gift you can't do anything about it, unless you can proove otherwise. This has happened to me, I was given my pony 3 years ago, people couldn't look after him, he had lots of problems, and I have put in all the work! So according to me I deserve him!!

A cautionary tale, I think! The only way you can ever always have a say in what happens to your horse is not to sell or give it away. I know that circumstances don't always allow that, though, and feel sad for you that you have been let down by someone you thought you could rely on. I hope your ex horse finds a lovely home.
