Long post warning ha ha
So I volunteer for Scottish Staffie rescue and we acquired another Staffie 5 months ago, she was a sorry soul and we had rehomed her and it did not work out, and because I removed her from the original house and seen state of her and conditions she was kept in I felt so so sorry for her and annoyed my husband to let us keep her which we did.
Anyway we could not let her off lead, zero recall just bolted - that's what 5 years locked in a kitchen does, anyway that's a whole other story.
I've worked months with her, taking her to puppy classes - she is 6 lol, trying her in enclosed indoor school to practise recall, long lines you name it nothing worked, you shout her name but it does not register, it's like when outside she is so overcome by it she can't hear you yet inside she responds fine. Anyway we kept at it then the other week it's like a switch flipped and she suddenly responds and comes to you so we braved her off the lead in a woods miles away from anything and she never ran away. So the other day we took her to beach and let her off and I swear down - she was in doggy heaven..! Running free with our other two dogs , always felt bad for her never getting off lead as she so desperately wanted to join in with the others and be a real dog..
I honestly shed a tear, to see her so happy pulled on my heart strings. From being starved and locked in a small area covered in urine and poop 24/7 never seeing daylight , and used as a puppy factory to running free on the beach on a warm autumn morning with the sun in her back - I swear she was smiling
5 months but we got there in the end
Nothing is impossible , who said you can't teach a old dog new tricks eh..?
Eating seaweed - yuk lol
Freedom - look mammy I'm free I'm free she thinking
Smiling she is so happy
Oi wait up I'm coming
Anyhow just a happy post
