So my fillies were living in an extremely muddy field, with no grass at all and very poor shelter at this livery yard. They were obviously getting plenty of hay but they didn't seem very happy stood in all that mud.
Sunday I moved them to this place which must seem like luxury to them (and me)! And I'm so pleased! They have about 5 acres of lovely grass to the 2 of them and the biggest (really cosy) field shelter I've ever seen. And NO mud whatsoever! I can already tell the difference in them, they seem to happy; playing, running round and scoffing grass.
My gelding is still at the livery yard. And I can't decide whether to move him or not to join the fillies. I've turned him away for the winter after being broken in the summer (he's a 3 year old and quite immature.)
So do I move him to this huge field with the huge field shelter for the winter? Although there are no facilities here, just the use of a stable if wanted but it's quite a walk from the field and no lights so couldn't bring him in every night during the week.
Or do I keep him at the livery yard he's at? Where he would be stabled at night, out during the day on his own (he prefers company). But there is a school.... although I won't be using it until Spring.
I think I'd rather move him to join the fillies for the winter and think he might be happier there but worry that he won't be handled as much in the field whereas on the livery yard he's brought in every night. What would you do??
