A while ago, I posted that my sis got a new horse for xmas, beautiful horse..but they didn't click, and with her being a new ownersold him onto an eventing home where he is progressing well and doing well. Some might say she didnt give him enough time, but the offer was on the table as they say....

So then, the search for a new one began...

She went to view one that put her in A and E (told the sellers she was novice, and if she liked it, she would go back with our instructor.....horse bolted in the school with her when she asked for trot, crashed through the fence, galloped towards a tree with a fence round, broncing.....sister decided she had better bail out, feet out stirrups, it bucked and she landed hard on her back, knackered hat and concussion was the result....sis at the time, jumped up and said 'what the ****** was that all about then!'....sellers then admitted no-one else except this man had ever sat in this horses back!)

Really put her off and as you can imagine, confidence went down the plug-hole....

We viewed loads, fatties, skinnies, plodders, psychos.....you name it, we saw it.....

sis was getting a bit despondant after about a month...and realised like we all do...horse hunting is a nigtmare, and thought about waiting a few months until the summer..BUT we then spotted one on Facebook, not too far away, and went to view...

To cut a long story short, sis now owns a beautiful 16.2 TB....perfect to handle, and a dream to ride, forward going as she didnt want a kickalong....she wants to compete again like she used to.....but this thing thatalmost killed her has taken away most of her confidence......

She has had new horse (aged 15, doesn't act it, but not a loon) a month and a half now....and to watch them today in their lesson was fab.

Beautiful collected canters, leg yielding, half-halt work, lots of sitting trot....pole work etc etc etc....

Each time there is an improvement and it's great to see them getting on together so well.

Sis is sticking at her weekly lessons religiously, and hacks her about the village with me, but she takes my horse for longer rides, whilst she builds up confidence again, and I go on her horse.

It's brill to see, and even though she has only had this new 'oss for a month and a half, there is a definate partnership there in the making.

Hence this long post...I'm feeling rather happy today.

:D

I think I remember your post about the other horse viewing and I'm not surprised that her confidence has been severly dented. All credit to you both that you persevered, as I imagine that you were constant in your belief and encouragement, possibly when she wasn't so sure.

It's great to hear that it is all coming together now. Onwards and upwards!

Well done to all, it is great when you see your sister doing well. :) My sister and I share our horses, give each other lessons etc and having a sibling to share the responsibility is fantastic, the ups are further up and the downs are easier to get over. :)

Yeah, she couldnt ride for two weeks, and left it for 3 in the end as she just didnt feel up to anything, also she couldnt drive either, really messed up things for her for a while.

I'm just so chuffed she got back in the saddle at all, I got her riding my husbands horse who is a faithful kickalong....then she got back on mine who is uber-speedy, but uber-safe at the same time!

Her hat was a mess.....and she had only had it a few weeks as well!

Her new horse is such a sweetie as well, so easy to handle in all ways, which of course is helping my sisters confidence....sometimes she will ask me to do something for her, if she is feeling a little 'eeeek!' to which of course I'll gladly do so....then the next time, she will do it herself and feel much better.

I'm not one for saying 'get on with it and get it done!'.....all at her own pace, and it seems to be paying off....

:D

~UPDATE~

Today sis got straight on without horsey being lunged first, a huge leap forward. She was on the lunge on horsey for a good 20 mins though herself, and did great, as she had done previously as well, but not lunging first made her feel so much better in herself.

Off the lunge she had a go at some leg-yielding, half-passes and was mighty chuffed with herself at almost pulling them off!

AND....she had her first jump too! Went over a low cross about 5 times at the end of her lesson.....

:D

That is brilliant, good for your sister!

I found my horse on Facebook too after over a year of looking, she is also proving to be worth her weight in gold!

I only have a lesson every other week, but I still go with her as groom to give her a hand when I'm not riding...and i'm taking piccies with me posh camera next week....I'll ask her if I can post some, she won't mind.... :D

Well done to you both for your patience and preservation :D Look forward to seeing the pics!

My first buy was a diaster and I knew straight away that I'd bought the wrong horse that was too much for me and not sold as described. I finally found mine that I have had for 6 months and we click perfectly!

I hope there's many happy years to come :)
