Well almost 5 months down the line and I can't believe the change in my nappy mare. It has been a long road of in hand hacking, and ground work but today we went out on our first 2 hour hack down roads she has never been down before. We had a couple of spooks, but nothing major and at the kinds of things that I would expect ie. man hiding behind fence doing building works and then popping up his head whilst throwing over a bucket of water, lol!!!! And no napping (well one attempt but thats all)!

I am just so pleased and its what I have wanted to be able to do with her!!! I made myself go today, as I can tell her trust and attitude towards me has changed a lot. I knew that if it got sticky I would just get down and lead her a bit. I did this twice, once past a field of cows where we had to practically skim the fence and then past a house down a dirt track which had plastic bags attached to its doors and handles. I also let her munch on lovely green grass whilst walking her in hand so she was chilled and relaxed.

I am so happy we did it, and it means I don't have to put myself back in the awful situation of being at a yard I hate!!! She is at mine at the moment but thought about moving back to stables as I wasn't hacking out enough alone and thought I would be better just riding in a sandschool. But no we can do it, ha!! Can just stable her for the odd month or two there now just to let me field rest, but no more lessons with mean YO. So pleased!!!!!:)

I know, I am just soooo pleased!!! Its the whole reason I sold my comp horse as I couldn't hack him out, then my new mare turned out to be really nappy. But all the hard work is paying off now and I am planning all the routes I will be able to go on with her now!!!!:D

I'm having the same problems with my mare at the moment and hope to get reach the same end goal as you have. Any advice would be great? Thanks
