I have had my pony for 8 years now and the 6 out of 8 years that I have had him he was petrified of water. You couldn't even go near him with a bucket of water or a sponge because he knew he would get wet. This is because his old owners before me just tied him up and threw cold buckets of water over him which used to scare the life out of him the poor ******
I started to then try and get him used to sponges water and hoses and for the last 2 years I have happily been able to get a hose on him and he is absolutely fine about it
But he used to be terrified of puddles. It has only been in the last year that I have got him to walk through small puddles and have no problems. Today I took him for a hack down the dirt track and he was an angel until he came to a puddle that covered the entire track. I was nice and encouraging towards him but he just refused and napped but I didn't get angry. I just got off him and led him through the puddle several times and he was as happy as a clam!
I then got back on and went for a gallop in the field. When I started to come back home I had to go past the puddle again. I braced myself and kicked on just to see whether he would go through or whether I needed to jump of a re-mount again. But nope! I was so proud of him he put his big boy shoes on and just walked through the puddle like he has been doing it for years!!
I am soo happy and proud of him!
I know it's a bit of a pointless post but I just really wanted to share my success of him as this is the first time in 8 years that I have managed to get him through a massive puddle that covers the road!
