What's riding?............Oh that thing you're supposed to do with your horse.

Is it? I thought you were just meant to muck out its sh!t, feed it, take it for walks in-hand, groom it, and look at its tack every now and then and try and remember what all the bits 'n' pieces are for.

Ho hum.

luckily we have a small indoor so every day, apart from sunday as the courtyard between the field where she lives out and the stables was too icy to walk her across - she is still mega fresh being worked 5 days a week - she lives out so can move around and burn off energy but with the ice and snow she just stood in shelter eating her hay!! so now cut her hard feed as was loopy on tues!

couple of hours ago, rode in pristine snow, under floodlights, was a lovely atmosphere.

stuck to the same 30m circle to churn the snow up, as the surface was fine underneath and manage to walk/trot/canter, do some suppling and stretching and a bit of shoulder in/travers.

horse is barefoot though so no issues with ice stilts(feet were totally clear).

I've hacked in the woods most days and in the fields had lovely canter changes, pirouetes, half passes and all! The snow brings out the very best in my lad!

My herd are all barefoot so they don't slide on snow or icy ground. I feel a bit for the shod guys at the moment teetering around.

Last managed to ride mine on Sunday for half an hour, before that it was before Christmas, just not enough time over the holds and now the weathers struck.
In terms of the horses I ride for another lady, either the yard is too frozen/slippery to get to the indoor, or the outdoor is frozen and we have the same problem with crossing the yard anyway. Can't be helped, just one of those things. Last rode there Thurs last week but it feels like a lot longer- just keeping fingers crossed now it clears up soon!
