I actually spent the time to sit down and see how much of my money goes on equestrianism, whether it be riding lessons/hacking or horse products. It came to just over £6k last year! I don't really mind as horses are my passion, but it was interesting to find out that nearly all my spare cash goes on riding. And I'm only a student:o

Blimey, how do you afford that as a student :)

I have never worked it out, old boy was about £300 a month.

Pony ... Free hay, free bedding, feed about £11 / month, usual farrier and dentist and vet, so about £500!!!

That is not including lessons and comps, so all in all no more than £1000

£1000 a year? Wow, you must be doing something right!:)

I have my own place but I realise it costs me just as much as anyone else. If I rented my place out and sold all my homemade hay I'd be at least £3,000 a year better off add the farrier and vet costs and all other money I spend on the hrses and I realise its £thousands per year.

I added it up once, near had a heart attack quickly hid the evidence from my partner and swore I'd never do it again, it was over £1000 a month :-(

I NEVER add it up! But, I did enter Royal Windsor the other day and nearly fainted when the one class came to £56!

£5500 last year but that didnt include lessons so they are going on this years spreadsheet. I like to see how much I spend on everything.

In the last year we have spent somewhere in the region of £20k on my horse. However lots of that was set-up fees, for instance, we bought a towing vehicle and trailer. The horse herself, her tack and accessories etc.
We do however keep our horses at home, so running costs are minimal, but once you sit back and look at it, it's a very sobering amount. Especially if you aren't getting a great deal out of it! :)

I've never actually added it up properly, but it must be in the region of 10-12K a year, that is 1 working horse and 1 retired horse. OUCH!!!

I put £100 aside every week and this pays for my livery, shoeing, feed and monthly insurance premiums. As soon as I get paid on a Friday I transfer it from my current (salary) account to my horse only account and I am very strict with myself on only using my horse account for feed, livery, shoeing and insurance. Occasionally I might put an entry fee on the pin card for that account but not very often, as my entry fees normally come out of my current account.

So I reckon approx £5,500 per year which isn't too bad for a 17.1hh WB in competition every weekend.

Easily £10K a year for them both. This is livery, feed costs, bedding, insurance, lessons,
and horsey shopping. On top of this there are BE and BD subscriptions and entry costs which are paid for by my daughter's sponsor, which I have not added into this figure. I also have not added in any diesel or repairs or maintenance to my 4 x 4 and trailer, which goes through my company, but I do pay tax on them as a benefit in kind, so not a freeby. If I sat down and really costed it up accurately with eveything included, it think it would come to the cost of some of my staff's salaries, and we do pay decent wages. Thats a rather sobering thought.

I've got two and I reckon I probably spend a good £10k a year if I actually go out and do anything with them. So about a third of my salary

I've guestimated that though as it is, in reality, probably more and I don't want to know!!

When i first took BP on loan I budgetted £400/month on part livery. That was there or thereabouts right most of the time but since I bought him I've tended to spend a bit more as i upgraded tack, broken rugs, more lessons, competitions, etc so I know it's at least £450. (Eek, that's more than £5k a year!!!)
If you then add on the purchase of pony, saddle, 4x4, trailer, rubber matting and other things I don't include in the monthly budget that's another £12,000 in the last 18 months!!!!
Holy ******* that's a lot of money! (wouldn't normally swear like that but I really am shocked at how much money I've gone through)that means in the last 2 1/2 years I have spent £25000!
Now i understand why my non-horsey friends can afford clothes that aren't by George or F&F!

More than i would like to think about. I think its prob about 5k not including lorry costs and shows. :o
I've been working out how much it will cost me to compete at a few over night shows and i near passed out when i worked out how much it would cost to jump at Hickstead  think that might only happen a couple of times in my lifetime! :D
