so, how much does it cost to keep a horse these days?

I worked out my horse cost me about £1100 a month including lessons , decided that was not a good idea and now try to forget what the cost came in at. :-( and defo WON'T be added costs up again.

:eek::eek::eek:

I know that my pony takes a fair whack of my wages each month but £1100.... thats crazzzyyyyy!!!!!

Just saw this Pat. am working on it. Joe will be subsidized at nursery as of Jan, so can work more hours which will make a big difference. Was wondering about grass livery? x

She'd love it! She's a real mud monster (embarrassingly so!) but as long as she had decent rugs I'm sure she'd cope just fine, she doesn't think she's a precious thoroughbred that will dissolve in the rain now! :D Will keep my fingers crossed.:)

Sorry, posted before I was ready - downfall of using a phone!

Assisted is usually about £70 a month. But this falls to under £10 a month in the summer.

Lessons (once a week\fortnight but this varies) - £25

Hay - approximately £15.

Straw bedding - £10

Minimal hard feed - two bags of Hi Fi light a year!

Vitamin and mineral supplement - £5

Trimming every 2 months - £40

Insurance - £30

He gets physio twice a year, saddle fitted twice a year saddle, dentist etc.

Approx £1000 a month but I am on 7 day full livery. That figure includes his insurance, lorry insurance and farrier. Extras are diesel for lorry, completions and my tack shop addiction :) I'd only waste it on shoes and hand bags if I didn't have him thou :)

I never can resist these threads even though I always want to cry after I posted!

Livery (restricted working) - £47 p/w
Trim - £12 every 8 weeks
Supplements - £15 per month joint supplement and £20 every six months magnesium
Wormer - £15 twice a year

Plus dentist, vaccination booster and physio check approximately once a year - around £60 each.

This is before any lessons, competition fees, additional cost of running a car big enough to tow a horse box, rug repars/cleaning, misc bits of kit you randomly need, BHS membership for the personal liablity insurance... the list goes on. :(

Yep, definitely regretting posting now!
