So i was thinking of sharing and asked about it on here, didnt advertise of ask around or anything but a girl messaged me on facebook. I used to ride with her a bit but years ago and when i moved to my livery turned out she had been riding the YO's horse there on a kind of random but faairly regular basis. He later developed massive napping problems and had to be taken off loan.
she just messaged me asking if my horse was still there and thats it so i said yes and why? she said she was looking for something to ride on a regular basis and cant have a horse knows i am at school all week in london and could she ride him the days im not around. she would not contribute financially in any way (BUT i would take him off full livery which would be a pretty big weight off my shoulder...) she offered to school him but I would only want him hacked as he gets *ahem* angry if schooled to often... he IS naughty out hacking and has a tendency to *run fast* in wide open spaces and leap around a bit...(but cant be in a stronger bit as very sensitive and just causes further tantrums).
Also she would basically have to hack alone as no one else really rides at my yard!!!

Anyway worries: he is old at 17 so dont want anyone going crazy on him(there would definitely be NO jumping not sure she would want that), she could get injured, he could get injured by her an then be my responsibility financially, I am trying to retrain a 17 year old ex sprinter so not easy and dont want her to screw it up

BUT she may help him, he would get more exercise than he is at the moment and would get more hacking which he loves, she would be happy as have a horse to ride....

SO thoughts please????????? At a complete loss so please could you let me know? cake and tea on offer sorry obscenely long!!

give her a chance! she might actually be able to ride ;) honestly if you let her ride him once under your supervision, shes not going to do much damage to him. if you like the way she rides then let them get on with it. if would help you out finacially and help her out too.

if shes rubbish, then thats your answer!

thanks, yes i agress my hesitation with this is that i know her and she is close with one of my good friends so if i let her ride him once i cant just tell her shes not good enought...? dont want her to feel even worse!

17 is not really that old, when you think that most thinking is that they come into their prime between 12 and 15!!!

Say you will give her a supervised trial, and see how you feel after that

i think you would be better off explaining all the above to her and see what she says, you say she won't be able to jump or school that much and if that's what she wants then she might say it won't work and you can look for someone else.

maybe she could school twice during the week but with lots of variety and then maybe hack out once a week or something.

explain to her you are trying to retrain him and don't want him thinking he can bomb off in every open space. maybe speak to the owner of her last shared horse (if you know them) and then see what they say, they might say she was a really good loaner and was sensible.
