So I painted the horse...

Of course I didn't mean to, I treated my stable doors and by the time I had located my horses in the field of cows, caught them and reurned I had completely forgotten about the paint...
My mare of course has the sense not to lol about on the door anyway and was straight to work with her supper but by the time I had realised about the situation, my black and white horse was already black, white and cuprinol woodland green... eeek.
Now I know it isn't the end of the world, it doesn't seem to be irritating his skin and is pretty harmless, but it won't come off with anything I have in my tackroom- the strongest being my diamond white show shampoo- would appriciate all ideas how to return my horse to his lovely dual colour, his head, especially, does NOT suit the noticable green go faster stripes!!

No idea about the paint, apart from maybe let it dry, then try pull it off, thats what I do if I get it on me!

Was it you (and Oshk(?)) that nearly had a painty incident a while ago when one of your "friends" thought it would be funny to colour in the white bits? If so, maybe pony thought it was a good idea and has been waiting for the right moment to try it out!?! (If not, excuse my mistake )

Oh no, I'm mortified, it might not come out?! I can't clip him yet as I'm not sure what he is doing for the winter (working or holidaying!) Mum once white spirited some out of an old hunter, but I think Oshk would be too sensitive!
Yes, it was me whose friend was going to paint him- I had EXACTLY the same thought when I saw it, little sod!
I will get a picture of him tomorrow, I have turned him out for the night, at least if he is green I might have a hope in hells chance of spotting him in a field full of black and white cows!

I am impressed by my memory. And green would make him stand out on the hunting field. It may grow on you Though I think that might be pushing it a bit

I have just never had a horse or pony who can manage to get into so many of these situations. I can handle the getting stuck between fences, I have almost got over him getting stuck in the water trough, and I'm almost on board with his latest acomplishment at getting out of the field, into Grandma's apple trees, over to the holiday cottage people trying to relax in the hot tub and then swiftly back into his field, but if he takes up painting by numbers as a regular thing I think I will be beaten. I love him to bits but he is a monster!

Swarfega hun. Thick sludgy stinky green gel that people use to get paint, varnish, etc off their hands, arms, face, hair, etc after DIY. It's safe for people to use straight on their skin so it should be fine for your ned, though you may need a couple of goes at it and I would wash it all off once it's done the job. B&Q will have it. If you want to liven their day up, ask one of the assistants what the biggest tub is that they sell because it's for a horse.

If your horse has sensitive skin i'd leave it instead of scrubbing it with chemicals or paint stripper Not long till their winter coats will be coming through [mine have already started] so unless you are planning on going out anywhere just enjoy having a black white and green horse and feel special!

He usually does quite well at local level, perhaps I should leave it and find somewhere this weekend to take him for the entertainment value!

Yep. Never had occasion to use on a horse but have on small animals. Might loosen it up enough to wash out. Vegetable oil sometimes works as well then wash it out with Fairy Liquid or similar.

try Swarfega, or use fairy liquid and washing powder mixed together, failing that just use turps but make sure you wash it all out properly and i'd be inclined to apply some suda cream after incase of reactions, but give it a go... and lets see a piccy ....... its actually refreshing to know its not just me whos made that mistake LOL xxx

it took me ages to get the paint off mac after we used him for my works mascot.... but that was normal poster paint....

Ah yes, I remember the 'paint RTE's horse' post. Oshk obviously fancied it and was just biding his time

If you're going to use anything on him, do a patch test first, just in case he reacts to it.

agree with mrs m about a patch test, mine are moulting like mad so if yours starts to moult soon you shouldnt have to wait to long. looking forward to these pictures.

I would probably let it dry and use a metal curry comb on it lightly :s
