Here's a link to his ad if you didn't see my post yesterday.
He had a lot more 'presence' than I thought he would TBH- he has a big trot (which i felt silly trying to sit to after being used to the springy little TB i normally ride
blush.gif
) and a nice walk; his canter needs some work though, it's not as balanced as his trot. He wa fairly forward going and was quick to respond to what I asked. He had a correct jump, and was enthusiastic, but i didn't think 'WOW' immediately..I think it's just because, again, I've got used to horses who 'pull' you into the fence- he doesn't really seek out the contact and grab hold if that makes sense? And i'm not sure, but I got the impression he might struggle with significantly higher than what he was jumped today
confused.gif

Then I cantered him around a field, where he was lovely- definitely enthusiastic but stoppable and polite
smile.gif

Then last of all I hacked him the 10 mins back to the yard (the school is in a different place to the yard
grin.gif
) and he really was superb. We met motorbikes, cars, bikes, another horse who was misbehaving and a lorry- he didn't bat an eyelid
cool.gif

Oh and he has the most adorable pink and white nose I've ever seen
grin.gif

Apparantly he loves XC and can be 'sparky' out hacking when his blood's up- no problemm, sounds like fun
grin.gif

Reasons I'm unsure: his jump wasn't really 'wow', and he was quite lazy in the school. He also has a splint, but as far as I'm aware that's not a big deal?
Ooh I don't know.

Couple of rubbish pics I took (sorry massive):

(oh and sorry for him, er, displaying himself in this one)

And finally one of him when he raced

(bought for £250k as a yearling- Northern Dancer lines- then wasn't very good at it

Looks like a sweety but tbh if you're not "wowed" as it were... then probably not the horse for you... from the post you do sound a bit doubtful... just imo of course
smile.gif

He looks lovely but I think he is over priced. I brought my ex-racer for £1800. Do you know how many times he raced

Yea...I'm just worried I'll be aiming too high if i'm looking for the *perfect* horse?

Because the very first horse i looked at in the summer gave me a FANTASTIC feel, and i genuinely didn't want to get off; but with my mum and friend and instructor, decided not to buy him as really he was too green- and now I regret it- don't want to give up another potentially good horse if that makes sense? Thanks

Dito the above - sounds like you liked the horse but not enough to have him.

Are you tempted to go back and try him again though???? Sometimes your head takes over and you need another look.

The two I have had/got I really had that 'I want them' feeling the first time I rode so haven't had any other experiences.

Was he up to fitness too? Might have a bit more scope if fitter??

Not much help am I! Let us know what you decide!

No, I'm not convinced TBH. Need to give it some thought.
And not sure how many times he raced- but he was professionaly reschooled and has done a lot of unaff competing since- ODEs, SJ etc. Reckon price is flexible too, a good home for him seems to be the owner's main concern.

Ooh thanks

My horse only raced 3 times i checked this before i brought her. I dont think i would have brought her if she had raced alot mind you she was only 3 when i got her.

You've waited this long... The horse has to make your heart sing, either that or just be so solid that there is a 'something'. So far, pretty nose apart, it would appear that this horse doesn't hit the mark.

He looks gorgeous, however on the showjumping pic he dosnt appear to snap up his front legs and tuck them away, which could be a problem when he starts jumping bigger poles?
I do like him though
smile.gif

Meant to add..as nice as he is to look at,you will know from sitting on him how you feel, which i think you do,and it isnt the feel you want!Disheartening it may be but i would hang in there until you again sit on the one that make you think "wow,i like this" it then dosnt matter if it is green etc,as you will have felt that special "this is the one" and be prepared to throw everything at it instead of the "i bloody knew this would happen so why didnt i wait" feeling??
Ultimately your decision, just dont rush in,i know it a pain, but very often worth the wait
smile.gif

I can only say I have ever sat on a couple of horses in my life that from the minute I got on I thought wow this is for me, and one of them is the horse I have now!!!!! the second I sat in the saddle he just felt right even though he was a youngster and very green at the time, I have owned him for 5 years this summer!

I think you will know when you find the right one, don't feel rushed into a decision. He does look lovely though and the price, if it was for me, would reflect his general all round usefulness and being fantastic on the roads!! Then again I am not interested in jumping!

Good luck looking for Mr Right!

He looks like a beautiful horse, and the Cross Country jump pic looks alot better than the SJ pic.
I rushed in and bought a horse, the first one i seen, and to be honest, i didnt get the 'feeling' that this is the one!
I bought her because she was in budget, had quite unusual colourings and because i knew that at the price she was, she wast going to be hanging around.
Do i regret it? Absolutely NOT! I am constantly learning with her, and although i readily admit that 6 months down the line i havent completely bonded with her, we are getting there.
However, if i had a better budget, i could have afforded to wait for the 'perfect' horse (if that even exisits)!
Probably no help at all! Sorry!!

Maybe go back and cover those issues with a second look/ride? oh the place where you get listings of all the racehorses - www.attheraces.com - you can even see videos of them racing so you can see what they get up to
smile.gif
Mine was doing a steeplechase but looked like he was out for a happy gallop...

I got my guy as it was almost a rescue mission and then he went and buried his head in my shoulder. The riding came later.

Don't let ex-reacehorse put you off. There are quite a few absolute diamonds out there. I know - I have one and wouldn't swap him even for what he was originally bought for
wink.gif

QR I think you sound quite taken with him - calling him "superb" and taking photos is not a gut feeling of "no" if you ask me?!

OP I think he's nice
smile.gif
I think maybe you think, you shouldn't like hiim?! Sounds like only his jump didn't grab you, but you didn't hate it either - is he just green?

Only you can tell though and I'm sure you'll make the right decision! xx

I think he looks really nice type, and seems level headed as well for an ex-racer (i've has experiences with a few which really weren't!) with is really nice to see.
With his jump, i've a friend who also has a lovely ex-racer who she feels lacks scope and 'wow' to move up to novice. However she jumped him 1.35m and he had room to spare! He just doesn't show exuberance normally and does just enough....could this be a similar case?
keep us updated on what you chose to do!?
