...... GOT BUCKED OFF, TWICE!!!

I haven't come off for such a long time, and I certainly do not bounce like I used to when I was younger! My whole body aches! I landed on my side (both times), going to see midwife tomorrow night, so will ask her to check baby!

He had me off on Sat afternoon on the way back from a hack, was with a friend, in the field on way home and he just stuck his head between his legs and bucked and bucked and bucked until I hit the deck and then he *ucked off across the field! Was so angry, once we got hold of him, I got back on him (which in hinesight was probably the wrong thing to do in my condition) but I was so angry with him, and I think I had dented pride to! Shortened my stirrups and my reins, gave him a smack and asked him to walk back round field - and off he went again lasted about 4 or 5 bucks this time, but still him the deck and he galloped off again!!!! Got back on but this time just rode back to yard - so gutted. This being pregnant lark is really quite an inconvenience cause normally I would have got back on and carried on till I won and not him - but can't really do that!
Think I had delayed shock as only now realising how risky it was! It makes you realise just how special your own horse is doesn't it - and that you really do build up a special bond with your own horse. I'd trust my life with Jack but you just don't know other horses!!

Anyway, pointless post really - just feeling a bit gutted and defeated I thinkly!!!

Oopsie! Hope everything is okay with the baby. I expect all will be fine though as at this stage they are pretty well padded in there.

Thanks for your post! my mum wasn't too worried and like you, said there's lots of padding there in early stages!

Hubby bit more concerned and made me promise to only ride Jack!

Defo gonna stick to Jack for next 6 months!!!

I have no idea why pregnant women ride - seems far too risky! I do hope your baby is alright, but still wonder why you rode, let a lone some dodgey POS horse.

Gosh you are brave - I wouldnt dare ride while pregnant !!!

I hope you are ok

My OH said if we ever have kids - my pony is going on full schooling livery for the full term of pregnancy!! Well - thats fine by me if hes paying !!! and OMG he said he would!! Fine by me!!!! :-)

Absolutely. Infact I think all pregnant women should stay indoors in the safety of their own home for the full 9 months.

Babies are very well cushioned at that stage, but it might be best to stick to the ones you know (coming from the woman who got galloped off with on a pointer at 8 months)

Ooo..I hope bambino is fine, as others have said, quite well padded right now. I'd stick to your own horse from now on, no point taking uneccessary risks.

Unless you actually feel big pain dont worry too much, its not an illness, not wise to go too mad but babies are extremely tough and if they are there for the duration they will stay put! Its not some piece of china!

I came off a few times when pregant, I had god knows how many miscarriages and got fed up tip toeing around in case baby "fell out".

When I rode and carried on as normal all was fine and had perfect baby girl! Rode until a week before I gave birth on very bouncy horse lol!!

Hey thanks Marsden! Feel better after reading your post! I know alot of people are anti-riding when pregnant, but Doc said to me to carry on as long as I feel confortable - and other than falling off, I feel confortable - makes me happy riding Jack and keeps me fit!!

Good for you in a way - you have obviously learnt your lesson but its true just because you are pregnant doesnt mean you shouldnt do stuff - you see so many of these fatty bumbum women who think that being pregnant means to take it easy and then they wonder why they struggle to loose all the weight when the ratbag shoots out becasue they have eaten 4000 calories a day for the last nine months and done nothing!! If your doc says ok - then whats the big deal?

My running buddy ran until 3 days before she gave birth - a right ledgend she is !!! and got back down to a size 10 in no time by keeping her exercise up!!

Yeah- go for it!
I believe that things happen for a reason and you should continue to stay active for as long as possible!
My mum fell of a horse on the beach when she was carrying me!
I came out ok..............

Just to make you feel better I rode until I was 8 1/2 months pregnant, but I did keep it low level and only rode my own horse, who I would like to point out was a nightmare before I got pregnant and kept all 4 feet on the floor during my pregnancy. I got back on after 2 weeks and he gave me a week to recover then started playing up again and was diagnosed with a kissing spine when my daughter was 8 weeks old. I tell you he deserved that op after looking after me so well for 9 months - I swear they know!

You are probably fine but do get checked, I spent 9 months in denial but have a fabulous daughter who just adores my little horse and vice versa. I also did my stage 1 BHS exam (as I said I was in denial!) and had the worst saddle on earth was convinced I damaged the baby after doing sitting trot on it but Issy was perfect and the hospital said I coped with labour really well as I was so fit, so there you go! Just don't get bucked off again - by the way being so fit meant for my 1st child I turned up at hospital at midday and she was born at 3pm - not bad for someone who was lectured by absolutely everyone I met about the sins of riding - you'd think we were still in the dark ages - just be sensible and know your own limits!

I rode up to 6 mths with both of mine, which was when I got too big to be comfy, BUT I only rode my own horses, partly because I trusted them, but also because if I came off a client's horse and hurt the baby, what would I have put the client through?

I agree pregnant women should not sit about for 9 months, but whether to carry on riding or not is up to each person and their partner, and it is important to remember that the baby does not get a say in this. If being pregnant/having kids is that much of an inconvenience, then perhaps not having them at all is the answer.

Incidentally, my doctor (who was also a friend) told me it was fine for me to carry on riding while pregnant, provided I didn't fall off! Probably wise.

They might as well, considering it will be like that for the following 18 years.

I rode with both of mine and did fall off early on with first one, all I will say is try to do very little and rest lots cus if its your first this will be the last chance for years to do so I always think that.

Don't you worry though, that if heaven forbid your child had an abnormality which could and very likely be totally unrelated to falling off, you would blame yourself for it? When I get pregnant, I will not ride mainly for peice of mind.

When you get pregnant I will ride a team of wild stallions bareback over a cliff

Hey there
I rode whilst I was pregnant (Although my baby was/is very much wanted and planned I was also in denial - weirdly) and it was only when he was born that I looked at him and felt awful for riding or doing anything that might have hurt him!!

Anyway..... to put it in perspective, I rode until I was about 24 weeks pregnant, never came off. Then around 30 weeks I managed to fall down my own stair case (!!) and had a bleed, had to go to the doctors and he sent me to the labour and delivery suite. But everything was fine and they sent me home

So I managed to ride a horse and be fine but fall down my own stairs and end up in hospital!!

Im sure you will be fine but if you get a pain or any bleeding call your midwife.

I carried on eventing with my 2nd but not for very long as I felt too ill. I can clearly remember thinking "If this horse pulls hard round the xcountry I am going to stop and throw up.!" Luckily it was OK, but I got off and said "That's the last one for now."

Wait until you try breastfeeding at a show!
