Did I not say I hunted with both? But yes, I find Badsworth a friendlier lot, the whole thing is more organised and newcomers are made to feel really welcome.

Rockwood can be a bit "hap-hazard" - a fun day out if your horse is a seasoned hunter, not so much if not... and they're not very accommodating towards the younger or more novice horse... those up front are often too busy being macho! So I will probably start my youngster with other hunts before I venture out with them.

That's when my belt of many uses comes into action. I've used it as a rein and a breastplate strap, as well as a dog collar and lead, but you can also use it to replace a stirrup leather, standing martingale ... and as a belt. People mocked when I first got it - but they don't now.

Not used as a bandage - but a rein broke hacking back to the trailer, cue stock into action!

So can you now see R2R - yet another reason not to wear a ready-tied version. A decent, quality, cotton pique stock will take a hell of a hammering before it would break.

I definitely second this, Mr Woof. I've even ended up using one as a makeshift leadrope for a chld's pony!

Don't wear a belt - but might just start.
I always have a small penknife, attached to butcher's string and safety-pinned into my waistcoat pocket; about 3 feet of butcher's string (better than binder twine as it does not fray); a very long, leather shoelace and a folding hoofpick. Most wardrobe malfunctions, both human and equine, can be resolved with something I carry.

I do so wish I had thought of that before using my whip as a Lead Rope. During the day, the thong slowly unravelled and gradually broke off from the bottom up - even the stock was cc'd. However, as child's father worked in London, I told him to take it to Swaine's and get it rebuilt. He did - and no complaints either - must have cost him a fortune. After that he always appeared at the Meet with a HC Rope if he wanted me to babysit!!

Wow - that would have cost him a bit, certainly! I used to work near Swaine's and loved to browse in there.

I think we should have a competition for the most imaginative use of a stock in the hunting field - might encoiurage the wearing of real ones!

It did - but it certainly taught him a lesson! Notice I did not "ask" - I "told" him to take it to Swaine's!!

Yes, if you start a Thread - we will all join in.
Also, what does one carry in case of Wardrobe Malfunctions?? Best regards.
