As some of you may know, Ruby got kicked last week. She had a small cut that I treated myself. She seemed to be healing just fine and is sound on that leg. Last night when I went up to check her over and remove her muzzle, I notice the cut had opened up a little. When I touched it a little pus oozed out. Deffiently an infection. Purple sprayed it and left. Went up this morn (was waiting til 9 til I could ring vets and book appoitment) and there was already a vet there (from a different practice) once the vet had dealt with the other Horse. I asked would she mind looking at Ruby even though I wasn't registerd with them. She agreed and had a look over Ruby. She has given me a blue antibiotic spray to be used twice a day and some sachets of antibiotics, to have 4 scoops a day, for 5 days. She also registered me with their vet practice.

Fingers crossed infection goes away.

Would also like some vibes for the other Horse. She fell over this morning and cut herself right down to the bone. She is off to Rossdale for scans and to have her joint flushed out. Poor mare :(

Fingers crossed and sending some healing vibes for ruby. I had a mare many years ago that got kicked on her hock and had a nasty 3 inch L shaped gash on the side which was perilously close to the joint capsule. All seemed well for the first month and was pretty much healed, but then just as started walking her out suddenly went really lame behind. Called vet out again as was worried could have been underlying fracture, but thank god there wasnt and it was just a bit of infection that had crept in. Anyway after antibiotics and another couple of weeks she was right as rain, and only had a small scar to show for it by the end.
Bloody horses though, mine current boy just had biopsy taken for suspected melanomas, he's only 7:(

Oh I hope your Horse is ok!

I'm sure Ruby will be back to her normal self by next week (although she seems fine in herself already, so must've caught the infection early)

I just feel so bad for the other owner, she has been so lovely and helpful to me over the last week. Her mare is also a lovely little Horse. Hope she recovers quickly and it's nothing to serious.

Thanks, expecting biopsy results by friday but looking 99% likely it is a melanoma, have only had him a month aswell:(
Fingers crossed for other mare to, thats good other owner is nice about it. I remember when Gem got kicked other horse, a gelding was fine, but it had been caused by another owner turning a 3rd horse out with them by accident after putting in wrong field. That in turn led to the gelding becoming protective and lashing out, catching gem in the process. Both me and he geldings owner were more than a bit annoyed at this other person to say the least!

Oh my Horse didn't kick her. The Horse fell over whilst being turned out. I would've been annoyed in your situation too!
