So Loan pony gone to new home....but old loaners have kept tack!

I posted before about how My shettie went on loan but wasn't suitable and so she was passed to a friend of the yard owner - well it seems they passed on the pony..........but have KEPT her tack for their new pony.

Thank god for facebook! Its blatantly clear the new pony is wearing the saddle I gave - down to the brown leathers and peacock stirrups!
I'm not 100% sure but think they are using the bridle as well - as its black with brown rubber reins........same as the new pony!

I've contacted the current loanee, and asked her to tell me exactly what was passed on with the pony.

And am suitably pissed off! Its not like they couldn't afford stuff..........they own a bloody freight company!
 
Tickles, Op just said new loanee is friends with her YO. She obviously trusts her judgement.

Fancy being so cheeky! Once you've found out, I'd just turn up and explain to them that they've must have forgotten to send them. I'd then walk to them and reclaim them myself.

Did you have a loan agreement? If so,you need tack back.
However,is it possible tat the new loaner agreed something between herself and previous one,until new one,which replaced yours,has sorted tack out?
Im not saying that's right,but just check.
And,put proper agreement in place if you haven't already done so,with new loaner.
 
This happened to me. The loaner ad my entire life's collection of tack and good rugs etc and she came back with hardly anything at all. I didn't do anything about it but it grates me now!!
 
In my loan agreement I've listed all tack and rugs and given them a value and the agreement states that they have to give me the stuff or the money back at the end of the loan. I wanted them to take care of things and not have them wander off and know that I could replace them in any event if they gave me the money. It might not hold up in court but it'd be worth a try on my part as it's so clear exactly what the £ value of everything is (or at least what we have both siged to agree is the £ value)

No its not my YO, its the YO if the original loanees, BUT, she is also a friend of a childhood friend (who liveried there for years) and her I trust 100%, there is never a bad word said about this woman.
The new Loanee has my pony as she was having one broken at the yard and it was going to take a lot longer as pony not that suited, so it was discussed that instead of me have her back she go be a lead rein till I could have her back and other pony is ready.

I admit I am probably too rust worthy, but never been badly burnt in the past, a few weirdos but nothing major. Its not expensive stuff - just a Status kids saddle.......and to replace everything is about £100. But its the principle!
 
Is it definitely not been passed on, and not sharing the tack? I'd chat to new loanee first.

I'd send a letter (signed for) asking for return of the items. If she fails to respond or makes excuse send an invoice.

Get photos copied off fb of your tack on new pony too.

New loan home is about 30 miles from old one, so deffo not sharing tack. I have copies off all the photos the pony was tagged in.

I am just awaiting reply from current loanee.
 
Would suggest that you need a new loan agreement and also to check out new loanees yourself to make sure that they are suitable and trustworthy. I would ask to see their passport driving licence and a utility bill and photocopy them. Also get your pony freezemarked so that it can be identified and keep photos of front rear and both sides of the pony. A number of horses/ponies disappear while on loan.

Yes, I do know this. I do know where they live - they are farmers. To be honest, The pony is only worth sentimental value to my Daughter (and yes unfortunately meat weight as well) She is grumpy, clearly arthritic - no amount of drugs will hide her mild lameness (fine for LR nothing else). New loanees do not appear -after further investigation - to be the kind of folk who would pony nap.

Had the pony been of more value - hell really any monetary value then I would be more concerned. If she was napped and I never got her back - - as long as she was either being an LR pony or a companion I wouldn't be bothered. That's all she will be with me anyway, and most likely in the next year she will only be a companion until her arthritis gets too bad and she is PTS.

Sounds very contradictory to my original post.........I know. But im just pissed off at the brassness of the old loanees! If they were at same yard and sharing a saddle, that is fine. But its the fact that I was never informed.
 
As the owner you have a responsibility to the pony first and foremost. We're all different, granted, but don't you think it was your duty to go and meet the new loaners before passing over pony's care to them? I would have been at the changeover to meet and assess the new loaners and to make sure all of the pony's belongings were exchanged at the same time.
 
Before acusing find out exactly what new loaner have and check what old owners have or passed on

Then ensure they pass it all in if they kept any.

Why wernt you involved in the new loan home?
Did you not vet them/check them out?

I had planned to be, but the only time they could do the hand over was a week day and work wouldn't let me have time off. Currently I have not been down as we cannot afford the petrol for the 120 mile round trip. Sad as it is. I plan to go and see her in the next few weeks.

Yes, It is my duty, but unfortunately If she hadn't gone I would have been stuck with a pony in a livery that I couldn't afford to pay for and would then have to try and find someone to transport her back to some field that I would have had to try and find. Hense why this alternative was offered. Had I had money/land for her she would have just come back but we didn't. I took the advise of someone who has more experience with horses than I have years in my life, and I do trust this person - she would not let a horse go to a bad home - that and she has their other pony in her possession.

You could argue that clearly I am a bad judge of character as I picked the first loanees..........and well, see how that worked out.
 
Well like you say the tack is not of great monetary value, maybe the new loaners already had tack and the old loaners didn't really consider (wrongly) that is not actually theirs. Hopefully you can just get the new owner to get it and make sure it stays with the pony, unless the old ones want to buy it off you!

I don't think it is that much of a problem that you haven't met the new loaner, charities get local people do vet homes as not practical to be driving up.and down all the time, its not always possible to travel for everything and hopefully you can still get regular photo updates and your local friend can keep an eye.
