Some of you may remember that Ty went on loan in November. He's come back as his loaner has a bad knee and has been told she can't ride anymore.

so he came home yesterday and I really think it was the break we both needed. he hasn't really been ridden but lunged quite a lot - his neck is like a rock!

He looks great and is so happy - think it's because he never really had a break when I got him straight after the riding school. he also seems really flexible.....so maybe the mild spavin has sorted it's self too.

She really looked after him and he does look great - my boyfriend kindly pointed out that 'she must look after him better than you'....mmm, thanks for that.

your post shows they're not all bad loaners out there

No, I have a success story too. Loaned my boy out at the end of last year, he did a check ligament the day after he arrived, after having clean legs for his entire life, but the loaner stuck with him through the box rest and walking out and he is off to his first show to do some little showing classes with her next weekend. She loves him to bits and is looking after him very well - I looking forward to going to the show to support them.

I was riding a loan horse this morning. He is a 15.2hh ID, and the girl who has him on long term loan absolutely adores him. I rode him today as she is away for the weekend.

I am not too sure how I looked riding this big lad complete with diamonte headband and diamonte edging to his numnah (the horse that is, not me), but he has beautiful manners, goes like a steam train and is so fit he looks great and is a real credit to his loanee. I don't know who the owner is, but they could not fail to be pleased at his condition, the way he rides or his impeccable stable manners bless him, he even takes himself to the mounting block when tacked up, and back into his stable when his tack is taken off.

From the other perspective, I have a horse on loan had him 2 months now and he's doing so well, he's only 7 but has osteoarthritis in his pastern, you wouldn't think it if you saw him in the field or rode him though. I've loaned him to bring him back into work (he was an eventer) and although he won't be able to gallop around xc courses again he's a lovely horse for me, I've updated his owner on his progress and she seems really happy with me, I hope to have him for a very long time! I treat him as my own, as his owner told me to and really theres not a lot of difference between loaning and owning, and its just as expensive!

I ride April for someone! I think it's a success anyway hehe

I love her to bits, treat her with kid gloves probably more so because she's not mine. She was retired for 2 years through bad behaviour when I started riding her and was a nightmare to handle.
Now she is a perfect little horse, everyone says how much happier she looks, we go to lots of shows and she can even jump now

My horse went on loan for 4 months before he was bought and it was a total success

Spent his time going on really long hacks around beautiful countryside and having lessons to improve his dressage!

She has now bought him and he is extremly happy

! I also get to go and jump him in uni holidays which is always fun.

My girlie's loaner has been brilliant, the mare has been happy and content and 100% looked after from day 1.

I could not have wished for better, i just hope i can find someone else as good.

Yep, it can work. I have nothing but praise for my loaners. They look after my boy better than I did, follow any advice I've given them to the letter and absolutely adore him. I couldnt have wished for a better family for him (am hoping they will buy him!) and wish I'd found them earlier.

I loan one of my horses out to my instructor/friend and it works beautifully. She used to come here and school him for me as he was a really unruly youngster. She got on so well with him she took him on permanent loan, she has done a wonderful job with him and he looks stunning - he is now out doing BSJA, goes XC schooling and his flatwork is now stunning and she is hoping to event him this season. He only lives half an hour away, I see him at shows, she brings him over to mine to visit and last year he came on his holidays for a week while she went away. I get lots of texts about how he is going and she brings video of him out competing etc. The horse is having a nice time, I love seeing him, and she feels she has her own horse as we dont interfere but she makes us feel we are still part of his life which is all that I ever wanted.
I would recommend it but would say to make sure you find the right person for your horse.
We have been lucky.

That said though, I missed him so much and really hope that my circumstances don't change for the worse so that I can keep both of them - they're both great in their own ways!
