Ok, so after being really worried about the reversing I did it fine, then did the controlled stop without a problem. Just about to go out on to the roads when the instructor lets me know I have already failed! Apparently when reversing in to the box I stopped 1 inch short of the black line in the yellow box. This is something my instructor never told me so I was rather upset. Decided to carry on with the driving section seeing as I had paid £80 for the test. Did the road driving fine and only got 5 minors. Decided to opt out of the hitching and unhitching as I can do it fine and didn't see much point seeing I had already failed! So, drive home 20 miles in floods of tears. Get home only to get a phone call from my instructor telling me the examiner was wrong and shouldn't have failed me and the test centre are giving me a free retest. This makes me even madder knowing I have to go through it all all over again when I could have done it first time! And I have to wait like 2/3 weeks for the retest.

a VERY upset frankie xxx *actually crying again now just writing this*

Oh Frankie

They sound like a bunch of total idiots. Can you not just do the hitch/unhitch bit?

Don't get upset, ring them up and refuse to accept this. It is THEIR error not yours and they must rectify it or at elast compensate you in some way. Ask to speak to a manager and if they can't help go higher.

how awful for you. As long as the back end of your trailer is in the box it doesnt matter. Id give them a ring and see if you can just do the unhitch/hitch bit

Too right, I totally agree, Id argue this to the death. Its their error not yours.

((BIG HUG)) Though

Head quarters in cardiff just phoned me. I do have to do all the test again but they will give me a slot next week instead of having to wait 2/3 weeks.

Just be grateful they are giving you a free retest! Troggy also failed her test before leaving the centre (she actually nudged the barrier) and also had to carry on regardless and do the whole thing. Try and be positive, it is a notoriously hard test and you are getting a free go. Some examiners are more forgiving than others. This wasn't at Leighton Buzzard by any chance...?

Oh hun, that totally sucks but at least they have managed to fit you in next week and they are not going to charge you. Hopefully you will pass with flying colours, think of today as a practice.

They sound like idiots to me.

Bad Luck. I appreciate it doesn't do you any good but I would be very tempted to put a complaint in writing to the Test Station as without a doubt some form of disciplinary action should be taken against the examiner. He's an examiner for lords sake & should certainly know what constitutes a pass & a fail. Now you have to go throught it all again after having only 5 minors.......he needs something done about him

I hope your re-test goes well

I agree with all of the others in that you should make a complaint but it might be better if you wait until you have taken the free test - not that I would ever say it could be fixed, of course not - but you never know! You could date it today/tomorrow and not send it until you have passed next week - just to be on the safe side!

How was she wrong though? I was told that if you dont get into the black line then you fail (which I thought was insane!).

If she was wrong to fail you then IMO I think you should demand that since you carried on then that should be taken into account so all you should go back to do is the bit you didnt do (hitching)! Its enough stress without doing it all over again!

Thanks for the comments. I am currently writing a letter to complain. Feels very unfair that I should have to do the reverse and stop again. Don't mind doing the driving again as that is obviously the most important part.

I think you should get back in touch with them and say that could you do the hitch/unhitch bit again and save everyone time, as that was the only bit missed out last time.

What a bunch of loosers. How bad is that, that the examiner didn't even know what a pass or fail was!! Just think though you know you can do it now so next time should be a doddle!!!

If it's any consolation it took me 3 go's, god knows how much money and considerable stress to pass mine! Don't worry you'll get there and good luck for the next one

Thanks. Spot to the DSA this morning and I do have to do all the test again and I can put a claim in to cover the extra costs re doing it has incurred, like the 50 mile travel to the centre and the hire of the instructors car.
