Have thoroughly enjoyed Badders this year, but there seemed to be an extraordinary number of falls on course-both horse and rider?

Any reasons why this was so bad this year? Im really pleased all seem to be ok-I was certain Elizabeth power was dead when she fell was horrific. :(

Xxx

I didn't think there`were any more than usual but I think the ground was fast and maybe this played a part and horses were getting weary? Which was Elizabeth Power's fall? I don't think I caught that one and I thought I'd watched it all yesterday

The one at the sunken lane-was a sort of rotational but horse walked away happily... Was absolutely awful. Really really glad she is alive. Xx

You could say I now owt about nowt, but I do think some of the riders have an overlong leg position? I know I couldnt do it, but I do think more riders could emulate Mary King and the great Lucinda Green. tThey seem to have a perfect leg position. I also reckon some of the horses were tired too. I was most impressed with the air jackets though.

Each time they fell I was selling the idea of those air jackets to my mum (just broke my back). It didn't work as she's threatened to ban me from riding :(

I missed Elizabeth's fall but seen the others on the highlight programme today.

i had just left the sunken lane when it happened (im so glad i wasnt there to see it). There were a few shocked/upset people about and then there were others who ran and crowded around to get a good look.
so glad she is ok and the others, it was very warm and i guess that took it out of the horses. the course was beautiful too, i wanted to pick it up and take it home as we cant ride on our rock solid ground right now.

See, I am not sold on the whole air jacket thing. I believe they'e not been 'officially' tested so there is no real proof they are "life saving" like we are lead to believe. I shall keep an open mind but I shall be interested to see in 10 years time whether they are still around, are as popular or are indeed made compulsory. Whatever happened to the Exo Body cage?

I really don't think that there was a greater number of falls than usual. Just that there was a great amount of time with the course on hold.

I've been going to Badminton since 2003 and don't recall hearing so many falls and having stops on the course. That being said, this year was a good year to watch (the riders that didn't have accidents!)

I was unlucky enough to be at the sunken road when Elizabeth Power fell AND the lake when Camilla Spiers fell. We stayed put at the sunken road to wait for the course to start again - we just averted our eyes from what was going on (despite screens being put up at both falls, we could still actually see what was happening - they hadn't closed the gaps!) I was quite disturbed that at Elizabeths fall the girl next to me was taking pictures. And at Camilla's fall someone was filming. What is wrong with these people? If they had had a horrible fall, would they want someone gawping over them? Makes me wonder what some people are thinking.

At least this year there was only one fall in the lake. I remember being there a couple of years ago and someones kids were chanting "fall off fall off" as a rider was coming to the lake. And when they DID fall off the kids cheered. I felt like giving the parents an earful on how its not nice to let your kids cheer when people fall off - especially as they could get very hurt.

Maybe people make me feel disgruntled far too easily.

I was at the sunken lane for Elizabeth's fall as well - it really was horrific. I was there with my mother, who is a retired doctor who was an MO at an international event on several occasions, and she thought the worst from what she saw (until she saw her being moved to the air ambulance at which point she spotted several things which apparently were good signs, good ol' Dr Ma!). BUT, cliche as it is, these things happen. Yes, there were loads of stops on course but I think everyone would rather falls are treated properly rather than rushed on.

I really enjoyed it anyway, was there Saturday-Monday and it was absolutely fabulous, some truly amazing riding! :)
