So many freebie horses :-(

I too have a horse which is looking for a new home and I wonder what the future holds for him.
At the moment he is on permanent loan to me but due to serious unforeseen circumstances I can no longer keep him. His owners are not able to have him back as they have no room, money or use for him. So it is down to me to find him a new home by the end of the month and judging by this thread I may find this harder than I first thought!

It is so sad. A few years ago if horses were offered free then they always had a vice or two! Today it seems you can buy horses cheap that are sound. I think the really good ones with amazing temps are the ones that are holding their value and our being sold as asking price.:)

" We live in hope that someone will fall in love with him who can actually afford to keep him rather than fix him up quickly and sell him on...and on...and on. He so deserves to have a useful working life, as do , I am sure, plenty of others."

Why is this such a problem? You need rid of the horse so why is it ok for you to sell / give away but not anyone else? If someone else has the time, skills and facilities to give a horse a chance at a more useful life why should they then be expected to keep the horse instead of selling him to a home where he has a job to do. At least then there is a chance more horses will be helped. There is no rule that says a new home must be worse than the one before especially if someone has put time and effort into the horse to improve him.

Sorry to rant but this really bugs me!

I am looking for a horse for a friend if there is one needing a home.
I sold him my horse 4 years ago ..the horse was a temperamental warmblood but a confidence giving ride. He gave him a wonderful home working with his diva attitude but has sadly had to put him down this week.
Her really deserves another horse but he now has a huge vet bill so does not have the funds to buy.
If anyone has anything 16 hh + that would just hack let me know ...can totally recommend home for life

The only ones have seen free are unrideable for whatever reason. I have been looking for a hack for two years now and everything I have seen is highly priced. So if anyone is looking for a home for a nice hacking horse in the Lincolnshire area I can offer a good home. :-)

I got offered two last week, it happens to me all the time I think because people know I never replaced the one I has PTS a year and a bit ago.

The only free horses I ever get offered are ex-racers, and I really don't need any more of those.

On the other hand, I am in the market for a companion/light hack if anybody knows of one. ;)

My new horse was a freebie, not bad considering he sold for £25k as a yearling ;) He was going to be PTS simply because the owners couldnt be bothered trying to work out why he went lame. We've sorted that and now he's a fantastic horse, total dream to ride and handle!

If anyone hears of anything around the 16.2 mark (ID type ideally) that is looking for a quiet life hacking and light schooling please let me know!

Keep hoping the ideal horse is going to find me - but I'm still waiting ;)

Well if anyone knows of an 'aged' advanced dressage mare looking for a really good home on a private yard, Excellant references available , if anyone knows of anything which may be suitable just let me know, our beloved horse has just had to be put down . I am wanting her more for educational purposes though we would do a few local affiliated classes for the experience, must be sound!!
Am I asking for too much???

Well I have a 16.2/3 ex event mare who could carry on hacking as only has arthritis in her neck, nothing else. However as she is 25 I didn't think I would ever find her a good home so she is being officially retired as of the 1st April!

I've been searching adverts for a friend who is looking for a companion to her old horse (as her horse's companion died a few weeks ago), but I haven't seen any freebies or even any suitable long term loans (something small and old being the type of thing).

Has your friend tried WHW, redwings etc.

Well I'm looking to loan my lovely KWPN 14yr old done everything (BE90, BD, BYRDS, RC, PC etc) with me since I was 15. No soundness issues and I'm happy to negotiate a deal to ensure he has the right home.

Not even a sniff of interest!
