... So lets have something positive :D

Super excited about Simba coming into my life and our future together after dreaming of having a horse for so long, my dream come true, so lets hear it; What do you love about your horse? As much or as little as you like, sing their praises, boast and brag, let it all out :D

I love his happy little face and how expressionate he can be, and the soft, orange fluff inside his cutie ears :) I'm not going to continue, I want to hear yours :)

Feel free to attach pictures <3

I'm having a great winter! Brief hiccup when I had the flu aside of course!

Spent the winter hacking and upping the schooling again, after a blip last year when we found out the diva has PSSM (which massively explained a lot!). She's on a new diet, new exercise regime and feels fantastic.
First outing of the year this weekend, we are just off to a local dressage riders for a clinic. Hopefully some eyes on the ground will help me iron out a couple of niggles.

Big lad tearing his leg open in December was slightly annoying, but he's ready to come back into work now, I just need to find the energy for riding 2 again.

I love being on DIY for the first time in 30 years. Had a long gap between horses so DP went on part livery for 2 years while I got used to being around horses again. He isn't the easiest of ponies and can be very opinionated about many things but I feel we have made progress the last 6 months.

I am loving the fact that it has been a dryer, colder winter! Makes my life much easier. Looking forward to moving house next week to a place with an arena and off road hacking so we will be able to ride in the winter.

Sounds amazing, I'll move in too? Ha! :)

I remember you asking a few months what to expect from horse ownership and I replied that no matter how much you love your horse, you'll want to jack it all in and run off to Tenerife by February. These posts are perfectly normal for the winter months on here. We'll have forgotten it all by April and be happy horse owners again.

I'm currently loving having 2 sound (if old and permanently crocked) horses. It leads to some feelings of guilt when I ride one and not the other but it's a nice problem to have!

Since having his elbow medicated, M has been fighting fit. I did a polework lesson with M on Friday and he was like Tigger. He was sooo excited when he saw the poles. I think he's telling us he's up for jumping. The vet hospital advised against jumping - mainly as it was the last thing he did before going lame but I think it was the straw that broke the camel's back rather than the cause and now his joint has been medicated he's loving his work and a lot more comfortable. We've booked into our vet next week to give him the once over and see if he thinks we can give some low level jumping a go as M clearly wants to! We know it won't be forever and we might find out quite soon that its too much for him but he's always loved it so much that we'd like him to carry on as long as possible.

I love winter: cold crispy mornings, roaring log fires and long dark evenings curled up reading my book instead of slogging in the garden. No complaints or negativity here!

I'm going to whisper this as I don't want to jinx it

I am, so far, having a brilliant winter.

There I said it.

Yes, the early mornings are tiring (now helped by my lumie alarm clock I got for Christmas), and I'm sick of the mud and dark (though am loving the fact it's much drier than last winter).

BUT

My horse, specifically for the last two weeks, has been an absolute dream. He has always been lovely and sweet and well mannered but, since I bought him, has always been a bit behind the leg up to the point at the end of the summer he was just frustrating to ride (though lovely to hack still).

He's been improving all winter but in the last two weeks he has been completely off the leg, his walk and trot have been spot on and he's been marching out in the arena. Yesterday his normal, rushed canter transitions were the complete opposite of that. We set up a little X pole and he was flying towards it.

What has happened to my lazy warmblood and can I keep him please???

I swear it's because I've booked him for a back-check this week and he's trying to prove my money is being wasted! (joke of course).

I would like to think it's all the effort i've put in trying to get him off the leg and trying *so* hard to get me out of my bad habits (mostly nagging argh!), but I think it's just the time of the year and he prefers it cold and gets too warm in summer.

Now forget I said any of that before he hears ! :p

Loving reading these :D

Was very sweet the other day, Simb came over to be caught (field being somewhere around 10acres maybe - I'm bad with this haha) but turned around last minute and cantered off to join one of the girlies the other side of the field who was staring intently at something. He had a good stare as well. So I called him, he turned round, little gingey ears pricked and came cantering back! I know it wasn't anything personal to me, I'm just another carrot bringer currently, but it was such a heartwarming feeling!

Its not all bad, winter at least gives us chance to get the festive antlers out...

I'm not having a great time at the moment TBH but it's not really winters fault.

Favourite horse is off sick and has been since spring 2016 and not sure if he'll ever come right then husband decides to get sick too so he's stuck in hospital leaving me here with 5 dogs and 3 horses to look after.

thankfully though as winter has been kind this year and remained pretty dry, I've been able to keep the horses out so no mucking out :) yay!

Compared to the last two winters of constant downpours and feet of mud this winter has been lovely in the South at least.

My old boy is 22 this year and currently feels really good (touch wood). Every day I ride him with his little ears pricked in front of me is a blessing. :)

Winter has been okay for me to so far. First full winter in a new yard and my horse is so happy and chilled, she's a different horse.

I was starting to doubt I was up to riding my fabulous young horse after trying, failing and giving up on getting him hacking on his own but he's come back from a spell with a professional and we've had two lovely solo rides around the park. Starting to feel excited for the future again and relieved that I decided to get help rather than throwing the towel in. :)

I just like the fact that this winter has got to be one of the mildest I can remember for a long time. I know other people have had it badly but for us where we are we've only had about 3 days of some non-serious snow, that's it. Its been a bit cold but not crazy cold and its barely rained. Driest winter for ages. I really worried about putting one of my veterans through another winter but I didnt need to so far. I might regret saying all this as it could still turn but hey at least it hasn't been solid snow for 3 months and down to -15 which we had a few winters ago.

I have been loving the cold, frosty and more importantly dry days we have been having - I have even liked being out in the fog! I'm sure we will be back to constant rain soon enough.

I love the fact that this year I have an arena that is not waterlogged, uneven, frozen and therefore unusable, so I have been riding more as I am not limited to hacking at weekends (although I do miss the hacking that was at my last yard).

Amber has found her inner eventer and enjoys jumping over trotting poles and she even tried to jump the white boards that were in the arena yesterday!
