and it all looks very scary!

The trimmer himself was great, if a bit doom and gloom, and was very happy to practice his English (which made my life a little simpler).

He was overtly shocked at how long their feet were, and even more so when I said they were last trimmed only 4 weeks ago. He was a bit amazed when I said that Tartine was just about perfect on all terrain.

He said several times that their feet, especially Blitz, are very flat and that they would probably be very sore after being trimmed (:eek3:), so much so that Blitz should have boots on in his stable!

The trim looks scary. All of the excess length + more has been taken away, and they are now walking on sole and frog, with no support from the hoof wall at all.

B was a bit shell shocked, and although he is sound he is definitely "that feels really weird!"

I was a bit nervous yesterday morning when I went to turn them out, but B although a bit hesitant was sound, and T went marching out as if nothing had changed.

I guess we'll all be tripping up and down to the golf course cross roads and back now (it's a 10 min walk on tarmac) - fortunately it's now light until 6ish, so I should have time on an evening.

And for the foot fetishists... the left fore of Tartine (random foot) 1 day after trim... please excuse the mud. And sorry for the poor quality, it was late afternoon, and off my phone (and I hate taking foot photos on my phone, I can never get the angles right or the image stable :( )

I wouldn't have let him near my horses. Any changes should be made slowly not hacked off and the horses potentially lamed.

I can't believe what I've just read actually. Thank god I do my own horses feet (or indeed facilitate them being able to do their own feet!).

Quick update.

Both horses are great, and are working well in the sand school. B in particular is no more sensitive than he would be after a "normal" farrier trim on our stony yard. Hopefully with some hand walking on the smooth tarmac it will strengthen his feet. He hasn't had any issues with sole hardness/depth since he was a yearling.
