So now I’m really furious!

I am interested in the pyschology of this.

First we had the rants about panic buyers - apparently all from people who also wanted to 'stock up' but were thwarted as the shelves were empty.

Now we are having rants from people who all think THEY have a legitimate reason for travelling/shopping or being in town - but that all the other people they see are 'idiots' and 'not taking this seriously'.

Think about it - if you have a good reason for shopping/travelling etc., other people probably do too. Whatever happened to 'Be Kind'?

I do feel like it's worth saying to yourself "if everyone else did what I'm doing right now, would that be ok?" Like. One person going to walk up Snowdon last weekend = not a problem. But it wasn't one person. One couple in a campervan heading to the Highlands for some peace and to feel a bit safer = ok. But it wasnt one capervan. Everyone doing a weeks shop instead of shopping everyday would have probably seen a few depleted shelves but they'd have been restocked quickly. But people didn't just do a weeks shop they did a month's or longer and bought extra freezers!

It's difficult. I don't think photos of empty shelves in facebook helped the panic buying! It made me really stressed and want to panic buy myself to be honest.

Good points.
I didn't panic buy - and now I will have to go out to buy food in the next day or so. No doubt those who did panic buy and have mountains of loo roll will all be calling me an idiot for not 'taking this seriously' and staying home. :p

I went food shopping earlier today, almost seemed like normal! Even got some toilet rolls. There was pasta too but as I didn't actually need any I didn't buy any...

Somebody told me people have been stealing from the trolleys some supermarkets put near checkouts so people can donate to food banks etc. I despair!

Yes things were a bit more normal at my local Sainsburys (London zone 4) earlier today. Fascinating to see the gaps on the shelves and what people go for first! I shouldn't have to leave the house for a while now.

It annoyed me seeing the egg shelves empty the past couple of weeks. I would bet good money that many of those panic-bought will end up wasted. Food waste is especially repugnant right now.

I went to M&S this morning to pick up some bits for Mum and it was fine. A couple of products not in stock but it was about 90% normal.

They had a bouncer and a barrier outside so they must be controlling numbers of people in store overall, but there were more staff stacking shelves than there were customers! No queues, no panic buying.

"I was told by a livery this morning that in our local village, a group of youths or I could say worse but would get an infraction, went up to an old couple, spat at them, and shouted out coronavirus virus to them and one hit the old lady in the face. They were just bloody lucky I was not there when it happened"

These wastes of space need to learn that it isn't an old person's disease, they are just as much at risk. If I could wish it on them I would. I'm not normally vindictive but for scum like these I can make an exception.

I heard today from a friend of a friend who went shopping in the local Tesco. She saw a rather bewildered old lady with a trolley with just one item in. A foreign male went up to her said 'you will be dead in a few days, you don't need this' and grabbed it out of her trolley. Anyway she took charge of the lady and escorted her round the store to get what she needed, even helped pay as she hadn't got enough with her. After leaving her in the car park she looked back and saw the same male hassling her again. She shot round and had a go at him, drove him off. That poor lady, thank goodness there was someone to stand up for her. I really despair of what is happening to us and I don't mean the virus.

I went grocery shopping for myself, a neighbor and an elderly friend this morning. I did pick up a pack of toilet paper just in case we go on an Italian/Chinese lock down. I got everything I needed and my neighbor needed. By the time I run out of fresh greens I should have them in my vegetable garden. The only thing I couldn't get for my elderly friend was the particular type of bread that she wanted. She settled for something else. And the people were all very polite and thanked the people working in the stores. But, we are Southern.;)

I didn’t panic buy and I am a key worker, legitimately not one of these businesses labelling themselves as key workers.

I’m worried about getting food. The Farm Shop is now only doing deliveries when I’m at work and the supermarkets are opening reduced hours when I’m at work. I currently can’t get food

I’m all for protecting the elderly but a lot of them are stubborn and take themselves out because they don’t want to be cooped up.

I do wish people wouldn’t keep saying “they fought in the trenches for you” though. They didn’t. There aren’t any WW1 veterans alive and those from WW2 are nearly 100. The Elderly people are referring to are those that were small children in the war.

It’s no excuse for being a selfish idiot though! Of course

But people are out towing caravans and washing their cars at the petrol station. Theres no way thats excusable. The only travel I'm doing is on trip a day to the yard. I go at my rota time, so I dont usually see anyone. We have handwash and disnfectant and no one is touching anyone elses stuff. No one is allowed on the yard who doesnt have a specific reason to be there. I sort my ponies and come home.

If we need any food I stop on the way to or from the yard, but its emergency food only and we are slowly emptying the freezer and cupboards of all the crap I buy and we never get round to eating. My partner hasnt left the house in 4 days now except to walk the dogs and hes doing that on foot at 2am so he doesnt come into contact with anyone.

I'm sure the people towing the caravan and the people washing the car can justify it to themselves, but its wrong and they shouldnt be doing it no matter how they choose to interpret the rules.

Idiots

Frankly, given the current situation, that's attempted murder!!

That is heartbreaking. Thank heavens someone came to her aid. What a complete ****

Someone, I think another young man, did this in a country I cannot recall (I've read so much news lately, it was either the UK or USA) and was then charged with making terroristic threats, and in another case (USA) assault. I do think hefty punishment should be given for such an offense. And quite frankly, for being an idiot in general.

I was just talking to a friend the other day and said that if sh*t really hits the fan, I don't want to be around for it. The human race is ugly, very ugly and rotten. A pessimistic view, I know.

I live near Dorking. Wonder where the yard is? Idiots. Funny how nobody reports on the other side of the Blitz spirit - the looting, the stealing, the selfishness. Yep, it's alive and well all right. I'm avoiding supermarkets for the foreseeable, it makes me too angry. Boomers in Waitrose with three of everything and that's only because they're restricted, now. Our village shop is doing deliveries and they stock quite a bit, so unless this goes on for months, we'll continue with that (and if they carry on after, will still continue!). On the plus side, I've seen a lot of examples of people being lovely to each other. We're looking after FIL and an elderly friend and neighbours, the deliveries are being done by a voluntary organisation, a little library has been set up in the village where my horses are (and the pub there is filling up labelled bottles left on their doorstep with draft beer!).

I had to kick a family out of my field last night! At 6.30pm they are walking along a busy main road! 2 adults, 2 kids and they thought it would be ok if the kids could climb over the gate to pet the ponied seeing as no one was around - until I turned up and told them in no uncertain circumstances to f off and not only stop thinking they have a right to do what they want and go where they want but to also interfere with someone elses animals! They had a go at me for swearing on front of the kids! The cheek of them!

Oh god people are bastards.... Put electric fence signs up covered in engine grease if you can (so people are less willing to take them down). It didn't completely eliminate the problem but we get less of the morons now.

Frankly I want to invest in some guard geese ??

I agree - it is difficult to understand why people are choosing to behave as they do right now. Where I am the shops are full and I can buy hand sanitizer and antibacterial products at normal price in any small shop - but I tried to order online for my Mother in the UK and saw prices of up to 30 pounds for a small bottle of medicinal alcohol, which I suppose would be about 1 pound here. Really made me sad to think that people would do this, but I suppose it is just a response to the panic.

What I find so strange is how so many people seem to be just out for themselves right now. On one had they are stockpiling food, but on the other they are trying to find every reason that they have a good reason to carry on as before. So many threads saying 'well the regulations don't say I can't' rather than trying to go along with what the regulations are trying to achieve - i.e. everyone staying home except for truly essential tasks.

Sad, and in some ways depressing.

The ponies are behind a secondary electric fence a meter back from the main fence as one has sweetich. The kids rolled under it to get back out! I honestly can't believe the stupidity of some people!

It's definitely interesting to watch what happens when people get scared. I know this is an extreme example but I can see how easy it would have been for Hitler to bend people to his way of thinking, a milder version of group peer pressure is happening now :/ required of course, but interesting all the same.

Regarding those boys spitting, I am pretty sure someone has been taken to court for something similar, they should report it to the police. Sh*t like that needs to be stopped dead in its tracks.
