So OH Had his Very First Riding Lesson Today

I booked it for him for his 57th Birthday (don't tell him I told you officially he is 46!) but my lovely YO's gave it to him as their Birthday Present.

He was riding my boy (who is a very cool 5 year old indeed) and actually did really well.

Loved the fact that my lad was really listening to him until he cottoned on "uh oh numpty on board" at which point he then gave 100% attention to Bri in a kind of "ok your in charge him up there is a passenger I get it"

Only problem is I had planned a romantic dinner tonight with emphasis on the Romantic.....which has been put paid to by a trotting incident (note to self ask some male riders for underwear suggestions).

He says he really enjoyed it (especially getting to borrow the proper Cowboy Boots) found it mildly terrifying occasionally and says can he please do it again but maybe next time on the School horse who is not quite as sensitive as mine.

as for underwear - OH rides with cycling shorts under his jods, and for long days wears the ones with padded bits. Seems to hold everything where it should and gives a bit of protection!

Cycling shorts mmm sounds like a good idea I thought the Western Saddle would help but obviously not poor guy says the pain is reminiscent of his vasectomy

Good for him though - it's not easy taking up a new sport after the age of 25! I hope you manage some....er.....romance nonetheless.

Know how he feels did western riding when I went to see my other family in San fransico and I bounced everywhere at the trot and have never tried it since and that was in 1997, come to think of it that was my last holiday

Nice horse I hope he's feeling better in that area....I had a western lesson once and it was a bit odd with how far down your leg is - how do men actually sit on horses anyway? Where do they put everything??

He has gone off to have a long warm soak! lol

Tell me about it I am crossing over from Dressage to Western and my problem is I am used to having a contact, can normally be heard saying "what do you mean lope and do a figure of 8 I am holding onto washing lines"

As for how do men sit on a horse the mind really does boggle, my Western Instructor says he has just hardened up over the years (nice thought that thanks for the mental image!) my other good friend who rides is as camp as field of Pink nylon tents so don't really want to ask him for fear of what strange contraption he has thought up

OH actually has a pair that have padded bits, but only uses them for really long days as he says they make him feel like he's *wonders how to put this delicately* got a runny tummy and had an accident...
