Just got back from my knee surgeon whos said it'll be another 4 -6 months easily before i can ride properly again. Loads more physio and steriod injections then possibly more (!)surgery. Am so so peed off.
Was really fired up to find someone / somewhere with a quiet horse to get my confidence back then start riding Sid again.
I know its mean and pathetic but I'm almost getting jealous of hubby who's now turning into a really good rider, riding loads on sid and i can only watch from the sidelines as the gap in capability between us gets bigger and bigger. I'm happy for him and sid but i just feel really left out. We were hoping to start to look for horse number 2 but guess thats out of the window for now too.
Pointless post but so so hacked off.

Oh hunny, chin up better you get your leg sorted now than have loads of problems later on. It will all sort it self out and the wait may just be the timing for you to get another horse that will appear just when you are ready. Lots of hugs being sent your way.

So sorry for you. You just have to go with the flow, unfortunately. Your future health and well-being are at stake. Go and buy a huge bar of chocolate to console yourself.

Thanks guys. Am aware how pathetic i'm sounding so am trying to give myself a kick up the arse. Just have such a history of problems with this knee (this next op will be number 6) but was going through a good patch. I've got to talk to the surgeon again as to whether i could ride something that doesn't need as much "leg" as Sid and only at sitting trot but i have a feeling i know the answer.....

couldnt you have a little sit on him for a walk around the block?! maybe take stirrup away?? dont no really just want you to be able to get back on and enjoy yourself lol

Problem with sid is he'd sense it and i wouldn't trust him not to tank off. He needs to be ridden quite firmly and I've got nothing in that leg at all power wise at the moment. I'd probably get away with it on something less exciteable but not on our little monster.
I may continue with my orginal plan of trying to find someone / somewhere who's got something quiet to ride but hubby will go potty.

Where are you? if you were anywhere near me you are more than welcome to come over and have a hack out with me, guaranteed no leg needed whatsoever (unless you are on a death wish) and they won't tank off with you either.

Know just how you feel - had a year off riding after knee surgery & physio (surgeon says I have knee deformity - nice

). When I did get back on, had absolutely no strength in my really bad leg. Would definitely suggest you start off with a quiet plodder and use flexible stirrups with wide treads - I use endurance ones with help cushion my knees. Chin up and keep on with the physio

Sorry to hear about your surgery/injury.
If you can't ride look into other things you can do with your horse - Some of the natural horsemanship techniques are great for rider/horse bonding. You could even walk your horse out for a short hack in hand if he is sensible enough. Or long-reining, free schooling? I know it is not riding but you can still keep your horse (and yourself) fit and improve your relationship.
Or maybe study some horse management stuff and get some qualifications?
Best to be patient and not ride too soon or it might be counter-productive.
