So proud at puppyclass today!

Me and my mother have been with our puppys (soon 5 months old) on their second time at puppyclass this evening. Afterwards 5 of them (2 where ours), where allowed to play together for a few minutes, and when everyone started to want and call their pup, I simply said "Häråt" (this way) just like I would when they're out off lead. Both stoped at once and came running to me!! With the other three ones following thinking it was just part of the play, and "my" girls still didn't loose their focus on getting to me!!
When they had reached me, they actually seemed quite puzzled over why the other puppys didn't respond on their owners calls.

I think I had a big smile on my face all the way home, didn't make it any worse that they had excellent bodylanguage towards the other puppys when playing either... I'm so proud over them, and a little bit over myself for taking the time to train them seperatly with a long line, but most over them.

Some excellent puppy training has obviously gone on there

I must admit that it is the only downside of rescue greyhounds - recall when they have seen another dog? Zero!

I have thought of buying a Whippet more than once, and I've heard there's those that can be recalled, so I haven't completely ruled them out from my future.

Though to the other puppyowners defence, this is my number sixth and seventh dog that I own (I live in the same house as my parents, and I have the responsibility for the basic training of both), so I do hope I've learned a thing or two during the dogclasses I've taken with my other dogs. Of the other 6 owners in the class, for 5 of them it's their first or second dog, so though I'm not in any way claiming that I'm fully learned or something, I do expect my puppys to be a little more wellbehaved than theirs.

But I don't think most/any of the others in the class realize, that it's different for an owner with only one puppy or one puppy and one adult dog, and me with three dogs, though two are only puppies. I simply can't, for instance, accept as much pulling in the lead as they can, because three together could pull me with them like I had worn waterskis, with or without water present.
But all this doesn't mean, that I don't feel really proud when they behave so well. I was actually, mentally preparing myself to start acting like a "Dying swan" or something, to get their attention, but then I thought that I should at least give it a try and first just call them and see what happened and...they reacted before I got to the end of my call. The more I think of it, the more proud I feel of them.

Looked funny to, according to my mother, called for two, and all five came running in my direction...

Wow, sounds like you have done a really good job with them, bet the other owners were impressed too. Its so rewarding when pups start responding to their training isn't it

Well, to be honest maybe one or two is impressed, one gave me a compliment about their nice, calm temperament!

It sure is very rewarding to see how they respond to the training, but after all, I don't know any magic tricks, and I actually thinks some of the others probably trains more with their puppys than I do with ours. I think it's more that when I train, I decide a few things I want to train before I start, and focus on them. I incorporate some of the training in our daily life so that it's more just the way we do things etc. No magic at all, except in the feelings...
