Against my better judgement I was bullied by hubby into taking The Destroyer on the yard trip to a cross country course on friday night.
The intention being just to let him have a look around, have a play in the water etc to further his education.
Well despite me throwing a monumental strop when we got there - he was really on his toes and I was absolutely terrified - he was an angel. Hubby rode him for me for a little while just to prove he wasn't going to tank off with me (it was the first time we'd been in a big open space and the others were all cantering and jumping the jumps) and then I got on.
I took him through the water jumps and despite two older horses rearing and spinning (they don't like water jumps!!) he went straight in and splashed about. We had some great canters away from the others on our own and he was happy to come away from the group and do our own thing. We even jumped a small log on the way back to the lorry park!
So whilst I don't know if I'd ever have the balls to do cross country (they look so big when they're solid jumps!) I was so chuffed with Hovis.
Nothing phased him and he behaved better than horses three times his age. I was a very very proud mum!
