So proud of Senara this is weekend so I had to post these bragging pix
smile.gif
We took part in the Miss Blaby 2008 procession this weekend where the winner of the Miss Blaby competition is escorted to the fair ground by local riders.

Anyways I was asked to ride side saddle in it and am so proud of Sen how she behaved since I've only ever hack her out side saddle by myself on quiet roads. We had to go through high traffic roads with a whole bunch of strange horses around her that she didn't know plus face the rides, people with prams/screaming kids with balloons walking in front of her and band music at the end. She's a star gazer, flightly Arab mare at the best of times (makes for some good gallops!) so she was prancey, jiggy and acting mareish throughout the ride but managed to keep it together more or less. I was secure as a nail in my saddle though so it was fine!

I haven't shown in over 10 years so this was my first "public" even since then too AND riding side saddle which I've only taken up fairly recently too! My habit is from the 1910's so it's a bit tight in the waist for me as the original owner would have worn a corset and I wasn't, but other than that, I think we both looked nice that day.

Here are some "proud mummy" pix...

At the start of the ride..

Miss Blaby 2008 being led on a pony. The cart that was supposed to be pulling her got into an accident on the way to the procession so she had to ride one of the escort ponies. She was originally going to wear a short skirted dress but luckily there were some jeans available for her to ride astride!..

Sen being mareish and shying at the "scarey" painted circle at the mini roundabout..

AND, with all these "am I too big" threads around with lovely thin 5ft riders on equally beautiful 16+hh horses wondering if they are too big for their neds, I just get a little paranoid that me at a lanky 5'9" and too tall for my 14.1hh Arab. LOL, I think I look ok in photos but then, I am short sighted so some reassurance would be nice!

Some lovely piccies there. Blaby is only up the road from me

Wish I'd known about it I would have come to watch
laugh.gif

O and no I don't think you are too big
tongue.gif

It wouldn't even cross my mind that you're too big. You look great on her. Everyone is so unnecessarily paranoid about this issue. Unless it's reeeaaaaallllly extreme, our neds are all more than capable of carrying us. A slim rider definately makes for a better looking picture however. Different issue that tho'.

Ellies_mum2, I don't know where it was advertised- it may have only been locally although by the look of shock on the passing shoppers faces as we rode by, I don't even think it was advertised much in the area either!

PoppyAnderson, I agree, I think we all worry unnessessarily. No one has ever commented on my height riding her (I had to get my weight down from 15 1/2 stone to well under 13 stone though to ride her) but just got worried that if all these 5ft-ish riders are worrying about being too big for their neds, then what the heck do I look like!
tongue.gif

That looks like good fun! I hadnt seen it advertised ( i work in wigston!!!) wish i had i would have come along! always fancied side saddle to!

Miss Blaby doesn't look all that comfy though does she??

LOL, no she doesn't. I think she was terrified the whole ride (she'd never ridden before either). Someone suggested she ride in my saddle since she was wearing a dress but Sen would have been too lively for her (and would have freaked out with someone lolling around on her back) and my saddle is a very narrow fit and the bay pony she was riding looked to be a wide fit so a switch of saddles was out of the question. Besides, her skirt was VERY short and even side saddle, her um..bits.. would have been on show!!

Did she have to go and change then? As in pic she's wearing jeans?

Pictures are lovely.

No, that grey "top" she's wearing was actually her dress that she was going to wear while riding the cart. I don't know where she got the jeans from (they seem to appear out of nowhere!) but she just put them under her dress to ride in and used her dress as a "top".
Good thing there were a spare pair of jeans around in her size though!

That was her dress!

That is one SHORT dress!

You look gorgeous SSG, absolutely lovely & Sen is equally gorgeous

Was she not spooking at the policeman too? Can't imagine a Hi Viz jacketed policeman would have been an easy thing for her to deal with.
laugh.gif

She did very well, bet you're proud
smile.gif

Chestnut_Mare85, she was fine with the police (I usually wear a hi-viz tabard when I ride out too), it's the color white she doesn't like. She even shies at white paint graffiti on walls and white flowers too!

PennyJ, yes, I think Miss Blaby was glad to get off at the end of the ride. The pony she was riding is a gentle soul but Miss Blaby still looked relieved to get off her.

lovely pics! I really didn't know there was a Miss Blaby!! Leicestershire will never fail to amaze me
wink.gif
She looks terrified on that pony!

You look just right on your horsey
