So proud of Senara this is weekend so I had to post these bragging pix
We took part in the Miss Blaby 2008 procession this weekend where the winner of the Miss Blaby competition is escorted to the fair ground by local riders.
Anyways I was asked to ride side saddle in it and am so proud of Sen how she behaved since I've only ever hack her out side saddle by myself on quiet roads. We had to go through high traffic roads with a whole bunch of strange horses around her that she didn't know plus face the rides, people with prams/screaming kids with balloons walking in front of her and band music at the end. She's a star gazer, flightly Arab mare at the best of times (makes for some good gallops!) so she was prancey, jiggy and acting mareish throughout the ride but managed to keep it together more or less. I was secure as a nail in my saddle though so it was fine!
I haven't shown in over 10 years so this was my first "public" even since then too AND riding side saddle which I've only taken up fairly recently too! My habit is from the 1910's so it's a bit tight in the waist for me as the original owner would have worn a corset and I wasn't, but other than that, I think we both looked nice that day.
Here are some "proud mummy" pix...
At the start of the ride..
Miss Blaby 2008 being led on a pony. The cart that was supposed to be pulling her got into an accident on the way to the procession so she had to ride one of the escort ponies. She was originally going to wear a short skirted dress but luckily there were some jeans available for her to ride astride!..
Sen being mareish and shying at the "scarey" painted circle at the mini roundabout..
The procession going through the main part of the village..
AND, with all these "am I too big" threads around with lovely thin 5ft riders on equally beautiful 16+hh horses wondering if they are too big for their neds, I just get a little paranoid that me at a lanky 5'9" and too tall for my 14.1hh Arab. LOL, I think I look ok in photos but then, I am short sighted so some reassurance would be nice!
Me and Sen waiting for the procession to start..
Sitting pretty
